Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 10, 2012 7:28 pm Hi At what stage did you or will you get an independent building inspector. I know not everyone does this, but we feel that with our biggest investment in our life we should get an independent inspection done. We are in the Sydney area, can anyone in this area PM me who you used and if you think they were worth getting the inspection. We have a lot of problems with our bricks and one stacker door but that is it so far, but the bricks take up a lot of the house so we will want that looked at,but should we do it just before PCI? Thanks Re: Independent Building Inspectors 2Apr 12, 2012 9:03 pm Hi Cass, We got one at pre-plaster, pre-tiling and are planning on getting one at PCI. I think they are well worth the money! They picked up many errors some quite big and also i think that when they have the building standards and expertise on their side the building company listens more. If something is worrying you and you are considering an inspector chances are you gut feeling is right... get one done! A good SS and company shouldnt have a problem with your inspector if they are doing the right thing! Good luck. Figured it's a small price for a lot of peace of mind and some insurance. Did quite a bit of searching and decided to give Howard Ryan from H & K Ryan a go. http://www.hnkryan.com We actually found them on the forum (sorry don't recall where / which posts but I'm sure if you search for them you'll find more feedback from others). Sent an email and received a reply back promptly and efficiently. He promised to followup with progress of the build the next month, and did indeed do so as promised. I don't think he's the cheapest but not the most expensive either. I'm not sure but I think he's based in Sydney - but he does travel for inspections (we're in Brisbane). We are yet to do our "frame up" inspection in about 8-10 weeks, so can't say much more. Hope that helps That is a really good attitude Akin to you catch more flies with honey than vinegar. I do enjoy watching that tik tok inspector from Victoria but he does go a little… 12 81896 If you are in Victoria you have a statutory right to your own building inspector regardless of builder's consent. No negotiations are required. However the builder will… 1 2943 It is true that a builder can ignore your independent inspection report as it is not part of the contractual arrangement but that is stupid because he cannot avoid fixing… 9 46872 |
