Hi everyone,
I have been lurking on the forum for a looooong time and finally bit the bullet and joined.
My question is a bit of a silly one I guess but hoping to tap into the wisdom here...Hopefully am posting in the right place! I've highlighted my question for those that don't want to read the essay!
We are currently living a house on the block that we are building on and we are at Stage 2-preparation of working drawings with our builder (a small to medium custom builder). Everything has gone quickly and smoothly so far and they estimate they could be on site in 12 weeks, with demolition taking 4-6 of those weeks.
My question is-should I be aiming to move in about 6 weeks? We would prefer to put money into the house rather than a rental, of course, and I have heard horror stories about people demolishing and then the site sitting empty for months and months. Or should I wait to see the working drawings first?
A couple of other pieces of info:
-we don't need planning permission, just a building permit, although we do need permission to change the crossover (should be straightforward) and to move the house forward on the block (can still proceed as is without this change)
-we have two small kids and moving will probably take at least three weeks to pack and get out of the house
-services will take 2-4 weeks to stop which I believe they have factored into the above demolition time.
-we are still finalising the spec as well.
If you made it this far thanks!
Cheers
AMH
