Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 05, 2012 5:35 pm guys, i was on site yesterday and saw water marks on ceiling in garage. it is quite obvious that water has seeped through the roof onto the plaster ceiling. roof service has since been done and we are hoping that there will be no more leaking in the near future at least. but, the plaster ceiling with water marks on it, is it necessary to have it replaced? or as the site supervisor said, it is not damaged so we will just paint over it. the way we look at it, the plaster is stained but not sure if it is damaged by water. i mean it looks flat and all but how do we know if it is damaged? is there such a thing like "stained but not damaged"? any advice would be appreciated. thanks. Re: water marks on ceiling ... advice needed. 2Apr 05, 2012 7:56 pm The water won't hurt the plaster board, there's no need for it to be replaced. The water mark will need to be sealed before it is painted over otherwise it will just bleed through over time. Something like Stain Stop or Bin Seal are perfect for this.
