Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 04, 2012 9:27 pm Hello....
Im loving checking out everyones lovely homes so far and I think the time has come to make my/our own thread. So far my partner and I have been reading about different builders and experiences and we are liking the look of Dechellis. We have always fancied the Monaco by Dechellis but have also looked at AV Jennings homes and a few others, but we keep coming back to Dechellis. So far we have decided on the Monaco plan and been given a quote for the 'as displayed'. However we have taken a few things off of the 'as displayed' list to keep some of the prices down. At this stage we are dealing with Sebastian at Aldinga (so far so good) and we have found a 1000m2 block of land in the south of Adelaide (finally) so the ball is rolling. Currently we are waiting on the preliminary soil reports etc so fingers crossed everything comes back within the allocated $27k! Any info/advice or input you could send our way would be much appreciated!! THANKS!!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 2Apr 05, 2012 11:56 am Hi, We also built with Dechellis, so i just wanted to bump your thread so i can follow your build. good luck with everything Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 3Apr 05, 2012 8:47 pm Hi there, we too are building with Dechellis - Wild Orchid and dealing with Sebastian. My partner and I have found him to be great thus far. Knowledgeable and prompt in his correspondance. We are meeting with him again on Tuesday 10th April to sign contracts and deposits. I have started a thread of my own, not much to add at this stage I'm afraid, but everyone is fantastic with sharing their experiences - good and bad - which in my humble opinion, is invaluable to read about. Good luck and I too, look forward to reading about your house! Amanda Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 4Apr 05, 2012 10:09 pm Thanks Amanda and Wild Orchid, its nice to have some responses (and people to talk to about building - i think my work mates are sick of me talking about it already). SOOO....we already have some news - yes, its totally lame but I am excited none the less. Our soil test was done today!! My partner drove past on the way home and saw tyre marks all over the block and then found some left overs of the actual soil sample that had been taken. He even took it home with him so he could show me....on examination it doesnt look too much like clay or rock. It looks like....DIRT! haha Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What do you think??? pretty good looking dirt hey =) Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 6Apr 06, 2012 9:28 pm That is some fancy looking dirt Christina good luck with the build are you having pot draws in yr kitchen? Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 7Apr 07, 2012 9:58 am Welcome to the "Building with Dechellis 2012" club. As you may have read on AmandaC's thread, we too are going through final selections ATM and should have a start in June. Our footing allowance came in approx. $5k under the quote, which is great, but that money has somehow evaporated into other bits.We paid our Prelim deposit end of Oct last year, and have been modifying the plan since then. We originally were going with the Grande spec. but after adding on stone etc. it was more cost effective to go with the "As displayed" spec. Now for the extra costs - Carpet, Flooring, Air-Con, Electrical, Data cabling, Appliances, Solar, Concreting, Retaining walls, etc. etc. Gotta start a thred someday!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 8Apr 07, 2012 12:57 pm Wow Dingo, sounds like its all happening for you now!! Did you find the selections difficult or did it seem to flow? Do you remember what your footings allowance was, its always handy to get an extra $5k but im sure I would be the same and just sink the money back into other areas and extras. Have you made many changes to the original plan? I love the sorrento mk2 plan, its so big and the display home is lovely. We started with the Grande spec as well but found it worked out cheaper for us to go with the 'as displayed' and work down. Did you find there was much of a price difference between the two. Have you been getting quotes for all the extras yet (carpet, aircond, concreting etc?) Plumbergasfitter - im not sure on the pot drawers. Does anyone else out there have pot drawers? Do you think they are more practical and also was the price difference very much? THANKS!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 9Apr 07, 2012 2:29 pm Have only just started selections. Been to the carpet/flooring people (will still get another independent quote as I like Bamboo, but Carpet Call don't do Bamboo). Selections are done in a certian order, should all flow. We have a pretty good idea of what colours/styles etc. we will do. Will probably do the tiles that are in the Frome ensuite display. All the details will be in my thread, when I extract the digit and make one!! Have gotten quotes from D for gas heater, air-con & carpet/flooring. Will get an outsider to do gas heater ($4.5k versus D's $6900) Still to meet D's air-con dude to alter system, so as to compare apples with apples. Have had other quotes for flooring, data cabling/HT wiring, appliances. Will be having pot-drawers, we get 4 lots of 2 high (as displayed spec.), but as we are not having an under-bench oven, we will get 5 stacks & will change them to 3 high. See Horaldo's kitchen, it's an inspiration! Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 10Apr 07, 2012 3:03 pm Wow that kitched is just awesome!! I especially love the window in the splashback....such a different idea. You have already done heaps dingoD64, it seems like you are very organised. You should start your own thread - I would love to read about your build. Why did you decide to not have an underbench oven? The more I look at drawers in other kitchens, the more I like them. They are probably easier to keep clean and organised as well. I dont think we will worry about getting tiles and carpets quoted by Dechellis - i think we will try to find our own people. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 11Apr 08, 2012 6:10 pm This is the kitchen in the Monaco display home - we are basically going with the same colour scheme as the display home. However we will have a different splashback as my Dad owns a splashback company, considering a silver/grey colour with metallic flecks in it. What do people think? Do you think that will work? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Also in regards to the kitchen cupboards we were thinking of getting pot drawers the whole way along the island bench and cupboards on the other side. Opinions please? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I really like the three hanging lights over the bench in the picture you posted dingoD64!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 12Apr 09, 2012 4:58 pm The silver will look gorgeous Regarding the pot drawers, that is becoming really popular I think it looks modern. i hope you have a smoothe build Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 13Apr 10, 2012 3:54 pm Thanks Jesse, we went down to St Clair to look at the Dechell1s display homes yesterday (just to get some ideas for the kitchen) and they had the pot drawers in lots of 2 - still a bit unsure if we like 2 drawers or 3. I like the look of three drawers all the same size, rather than a smaller drawer at the top and two larger ones below. I also took heaps of photos of floor tiles, benches etc but just on my iphone so the pics aren't very good. We just ordered some samples for bench tops and laminate so once they get here I will hopefully have more idea of the 'look' we are going for. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 14Apr 11, 2012 1:36 pm i love the single storey house at st clair, esp the ensuite. essastone are great at sending out stone samples, there is only room for 3 in a pack...so i called them 3 times to get all of the colours i wanted! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 15Apr 11, 2012 2:11 pm Caesarstone will also send out samples. We like the 3 potdrawers as in that pic I posted, because the samller top one can house cutlery or coffe mugs or cooking utensils or gladwraps etc. My brother has them in his new build and they work well. I think if you have 2 bigger ones, you can't fill them up with crockery as they may be too heavy. My current kitchen has 3 under the gas hob, top one has tongs/utensils etc. bottom 2 have pots & pans, the big stockpot still fits OK (not with lid on though) Monaco Build I dont think we will worry about getting tiles and carpets quoted by Dechellis - i think we will try to find our own people. We have had a couple of "outside" quotes for carpet & bamboo and they have both come back a couple of thou cheaper. We both like the splashbacks painted with a metallic, looks cool! I now know to get Starfire glass used so you don't get that aqua tinge. Could you PM me your Dad's company details as we are still to get a price on a splashback? Our contract talks about a 3-piece splashback which aint gonna happen - 1 piece only! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 16Apr 11, 2012 2:23 pm Monaco Build The more I look at drawers in other kitchens, the more I like them. They are probably easier to keep clean and organised as well.quote] Pot drawers are a great idea - we have 3 plus one under the microwave (wish we had more!) - they cost $106 each when we did selections last year. This is what we've done with the top one - DH fitted it out ... Wise decision ... we regret going through D for our tiles ... paid a lot of money for a very poor job Your splashback sounds lovely - will tie in all the stainless steel in the kitchen Good luck with your build - hope it goes well and without any major problems!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 17Apr 11, 2012 7:35 pm Hi Wild Orchid, we ended up ordering samples from essastone but we ordered 6 different colours i think. I just did it on their website and put one lot in my name and one lots in my partners name so I hope they all arrive. Other wise I might have to give them a call as you suggested. Dingo I have PMd you my Dads details - im sure he will do you a great deal. The extra clear glass is much nicer in my opinion, when I looked at samples today I could definitely see the green tinge in some of the samples. I guess it depends what look you are going for. All of the samples I selected today were on 'Superclear' which is the clearest glass you can get. That is a good point you made about th drawers being a bit heavy if you load them up with too much crockery. Mclaren those drawers look VERY ORGANISED, I am impressed!! I think the silver splashback and stainless steel appliances will look lovely together, its just a matter of finding the right match with the splashback! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 18Apr 12, 2012 3:30 pm Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 19Apr 12, 2012 3:38 pm Lucky you to have so much choice!! I'm with you - Silver Grey looks great with the benchtop - it's not too dark either but will still be a nice contrast to the lighter cupboards ... Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 20Apr 12, 2012 3:42 pm I just realized when I posted the pic it would look like that was our bench top (the bench top in the photo is in our current house) the one in our new house will be essastone 'white' and white silk finish cupboards. Hopefully the stainless steel in the kickboards and appliances will tie in with the splashback go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110572 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11035 |
