Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 121Nov 07, 2012 8:12 am I had an issue with the man-hole being in the garage as well. Not an easy spot to get through to the rest of the roof cavity. Being a Sparky you tend to notice these things! I had it moved to the Store-room, and made bigger. Another good idea is to not use a piece of gyprock, as that gets handprints on it easier and ratty at the edges, but get a piece of melamine or MDF from the kitchen installer - heavier, easier to clean, edges won't get ratty etc. Speak to the carpenter and put any of the left-over wider planks aside to use in the roof as walk boards. Put them up now before they disappear - they won't get in the road of the insulation installer as he will slide them around - but the air-conditioner installer will probably use some for the base of the unit. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 122Nov 07, 2012 2:33 pm I just saw your latest pics dream come true - your place is looking AMAZING! I cant beleive how quickly they have done the latest bits. I cant wait to see more pictures of the progress - fingers crossed it keeps moving along this quickly!! Dingo did you end up having 2 man holes or did you just get them to move it to the store room? I love the melamine idea for the man hole, the man hole at our last place was looking pretty scrappy by the time we moved out - I think we even had to re paint it before we moved. It seems we only have a lot of long and very skinny bits of wood left around so we probably wont be able to use them as walk boards but we might even go a buy some planks to put up ther. Im sure it will make life a lot easier down the track. Thanks so much for the great suggestions - im loving all of the great ideas and advice on here! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 123Nov 08, 2012 9:53 am Thanks Monaco Build, we are happy with the progress, I'm sure it will slow down at lock up. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 124Nov 08, 2012 10:08 am Monaco Build Dingo did you end up having 2 man holes or did you just get them to move it to the store room? Thanks so much for the great suggestions - im loving all of the great ideas and advice on here! Just had it moved to the store room - and made bigger. My switchboard is in the store room, so I was standing on a ladder there a lot dropping cables down the wall, and noticed how much room above it there was. Whereas above the garage has limited access to the rest of the roof space. If you are looking to store stuff up there though, to have 1 in the garage for storage, and 1 somewhere else for access is a good idea. Probably need the 1 for storage to be fairly large/long so you can get boxes etc. through it. It will only be as wide as the trusses, usually 600mm, but could be as long as needed. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 125Nov 12, 2012 8:12 pm Thanks Dingo, we are only going with the one man hole as well. The carpenters have left a some boards so we are going to put them in the roof as well. Not much happening at the block since last week. We do have some of the plumbing installed now which is good. We are STILL waiting on the water connection to be done as well, my partner has called a whole bunch of times now and we still can't get a definitive answer out of anyone as to when they are going to come and hook it up - its pretty annoying as it is now stopping the brickes from getting started.....its pretty annoying! What's happening with everyone else, I hope its ramping up to get lots done before Christmas?! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 126Nov 17, 2012 11:54 am YAY!! We finally have water - will definitely following it up with the water company as we have been paying water bills since we bought the block (connection fees/admin fees etc). I don't know how they can charge us for something we haven't had haha, I'm sure they will have some sort of answer for it! The brickes have been prepping and moving bricks around during the week, so it looks like they will be starting early this week!! Can't wait to see the progress!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 127Nov 24, 2012 4:07 pm That's exciting Monaco! Seeing all the bricks delivered on your block... The anticipation! Hope things have gone well with water company. We have had dramas with our bank. We got out first invoice and dropped it to the bank the very next day seeing the seven day account on the document and that was Oct 20th... Builder has only just had payment! Bank are slooow! Apparently they had to do another valuation?! I hadn't heard of thay, heard of them checking the work before paying out and fair enough too. Not cool when the builder calls you up and asks where their money is and the bank has already debited against our loan!! But appears to be sorted now... When is your finish date scheduled? Ours is April 18th, but they were gyprocking from last Monday, so who knows, may be a little bit earlier... Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 128Nov 24, 2012 4:24 pm They put the tap and water meter in front of the double garage. Builder says not much they can do about it as it is upto the water company where they install it. They said it will cost us $600 to move it, good thing I have a neighbour whos son is a plumber.. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 129Nov 28, 2012 9:42 pm It looks like your place is coming along really quickly Amanda - at the moment I think u guys are about 2 weeks ahead of us - and our finish date is the 25th of April (so still about 2 weeks after you). I hope we finish up early as well - I just can't stop thinking about moving in and where all the furniture is going to go, I'm actually a bit obsessed with it i think! Have you been planning out a lot of the internal stuff too? Lourance I can't believe they thought it would be practical to put your water meter infront of your driveway!? That is so crazy, and $600 to move it is ridiculous. My partner is a plumber and he was saying that plumbers can't technically move water meters as the pipe needs to be cut to do it. Once the pipe is cut the water which is pressurized from the street will just go everywhere. The water to the whole street will probably need to be turned off to do it?? Have you heard any more about it? It's been great to see some more action at our house during the last week - we now have a roof and the brickie has been working all week. He should be done by the end of the week. We are pretty surprised that we only have one brickie working on his own. How many guys did you have working have to get it done? Apparently he has been told it needs to be done by Friday...he has been working all weekend and quite late in the afternoons. We are happy that he is doing such a good job though (even if it is slow going). The roof went on really quickly as well and we are happy with the colour choices. There are a few faults with the roof which we are hoping they fix up before we pay the next invoice. Apparently we had a little flood at the house today as the electrician was doing the first fox and drilled through a water pipe - ooops, there is a big puddle in the ensuite. It's been ages since I have had a chance to update our thread, but lots has happened since then. I will post some pictures, that will be the best way of explaining what has been happening. It's been pretty smooth sailing.....only a couple of hiccups at this point, keeping our fingers crossed that our luck continues. This is the colour in the display home, do u think it will be too much of one colour to have it in both spots, or should we just stick with a white? Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 134Feb 09, 2013 9:35 pm Very similar to what our kitchen will look like, except our stone is black. We are having a similar looking splashback. I'd just have it in the usual spot Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 135Feb 10, 2013 11:26 am given such opportunity I would have splashbacks everywhere! In your case I think it depends on a) floorboards/tiles color b) color intensity of the first splashback from the other side the pantry doors create a massive block of glossy (?) white + overhead cupboards are white so the splashbacks can even be different if colors of the smaller one are repeated in other elements example: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ or if you like patterns: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ the island can be left white if bar stools are color coded Our build thread: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=60755 Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 136Feb 10, 2013 4:36 pm Hey! How funny I just recognised your house!? Sorry does that sound strange? We looked at the block next door the one covered in pine trees, I don't think your block had so many trees to remove? They are both a great size. We are looking for a block in the same area, our eldest has started primary school and the next one starts mid year so not wanting to move far. Anyway, with your splash back maybe depends on your flooring....what are you having? Your house is looking great from the photos. Are you new to the area? We've lived here for eight years so let me know if need to know anything. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 137Feb 10, 2013 5:15 pm Hi MrsRusty, that's funny that u recognized our house,we have had loads of people popping in to look at the block next door while we have been there....no luck on a sale yet! We were hoping it would sell quickly so we could organize fences, retaining walls and they would have the trees chopped down before we moved in but it doesn't seem likey. We were really lucky, we had no trees on our block! Do u think u would be interested in the block without the trees, apparently the owner is applying to council to have them removed! It's such a nice area,my parter is from happy valley and I'm originally from blackwood so we know the area pretty well. Which school does your eldest go to? I would love to hear a bit more about the local school in our area. In regards to the splashback,we are having grey floor tiles, 600x600mm rectified polished porcelain. I will post a pic in a sec. Ragnarswife,I love the pic u posted with the two different colour splashbacks, I have been looking for an inspiration pic like that but hadn't found much. I have a couple of splashback pics that I will post as well-would love opinions Thanks again for all of your awesome feedback!! Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 139Feb 10, 2013 6:44 pm We might consider it if the trees are removed there are just so many! Also also be good to know which ones can be. I've pm'ed you the school details. We agree its a great area. With the splashback maybe a light silvery grey? But then again I am a bit boring lol. Re: Building the Monaco by Dechellis 140Feb 10, 2013 8:47 pm We have a medium grey floor tile, white(ish) walls, black bench tops and white laminex gloss cabinets. We were going to have a silver splashback to 'match' but decided on the blue/green colour like in your picture just to brighten things up a bit Feel free to follow our build! viewtopic.php?f=31&t=59958 go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110592 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11039 |
