Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Apr 03, 2012 1:06 pm We have been to Henleys showroom several times and quite simply are not satisfied with the Cat 1 tiles. The cat 1 tiles are $999 or cat 3 tiles are $9063 minus 10% due to a current promotion where Henley offer free timber look flooring. That is a huge price increase so we started looking elsewhere and found much nicer tiles for around 2000 at national tiles. When I asked cosham about subsidy or if they would lay our tiles, considering we have done practically every upgrade possible to both structure and fixtures, they said no and no. I feel like we have agreed to pay out so much and that they are not being flexible. This is our first house build we weren't really given any offers and didn't negotiate on anything. I don't know if this is just the way it goes and it's tough luck and maybe I'm being unreasonable or if maybe just maybe we have a bit of bargaining power. We haven't yet had colours or tender. Appreciate any advice. Thanks everyone Erin. Building Henley - Lexington 993 Q2 in Selandra Rise, Clyde North Re: Advice on tiles for house 2Apr 03, 2012 3:00 pm Hey Erin We hear you. We are in the process of signing our Contract early May. We did our color some months ago and are on our 8th tender. We are doing our own tiling post handover (except wet areas, where the upgrade to cat 3 was not too bad). Our site costs are astronomical. This may be due to it being a demolition and rebuild. We built with Henley about 12 years ago and were really satisfied. They were so more flexible years ago. We have requested some non standard options and we continuously get no as our answer. If we did not love the design we would have walked away long ago. Anyway , whatever you decide to do will be the right choice for both of you. Be patient and focused and things will go just fine. Ilias Re: Advice on tiles for house 3Apr 03, 2012 8:16 pm Hi Illias, It is so frustrating isn't it?! We love the house design it just feels like there is no compromising with the builder. 8 tenders? How does that work? So, if we are not happy with the tender we can walk away and shuffle things and go back? If that's the case then I am not as worried as before. It just seems like they get the great end of the stick not having to lay down any of the flooring in the living areas but still holding the money for it where we have to add another cost in finding a tiler - and not only that - finding a good tiler who isn't going to do a bad job. I am trying to be patient lol even though it seems and feels like I have lost the plot a little.
