Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 30, 2012 3:03 pm We have a block of land in Swan View (WA) which tends be considerably clay. I understand what soakwells do in simple terms but wondering whether they are a requirement. The builders quote I have is $3500 for stormwater disposal - "Soakwells to an 'A' class site". Is this reasonable or would I be best getting this done ourselves, or is this something that needs to be done by builder? Re: [PER] What are soakwells and do I need them? 2Mar 30, 2012 3:12 pm different councils will have diff requirements. if yr council does require it, you can always tell the builder that you will do them yourself and on your contract it will have 'by owner'. it will def be cheaper to do it yourself, however, if you dont want the hassle of doing it then the builder can do it. our council allows owners to do it, but we will be plumbing to rainwater tank as we dont have mains water where we are so every drop counts for us, so wont be putting in soakwells. hope that helps a little Re: [PER] What are soakwells and do I need them? 3Mar 30, 2012 3:24 pm GardenofNeedn-58 our council allows owners to do it, but we will be plumbing to rainwater tank as we dont have mains water where we are so every drop counts for us, so wont be putting in soakwells. hope that helps a little Yes - thanks, I'm wondering whether for $3500 it might be within same price range to install a rainwater tank as well! Can you tell me what you're paying for this rainwater tank? Re: [PER] What are soakwells and do I need them? 4Mar 30, 2012 3:33 pm we are getting a 190,000L tank - approx $9000 - which includes installation, but not the sand pad to put it on, but we are getting the tank pad done at the same time we get our earthworks done. Wow that's huge - we have running water so we'd only need a way smaller tank for gardening.
