Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 20, 2012 9:15 am I’m just wondering if anyone knows if Domestic Building Insurance (or Builders Warranty Insurance) has an expiry date? I have a certificate of insurance from my builder, it has an issue date but no expiry. My builders 270 days is almost up, and we don’t even have a frame yet. I am worried that the insurance certificate might expire before they finish. Re: Builders Warranty Insurance 2Mar 20, 2012 1:39 pm NO expiry date, within reason for the build. The Builder Warranty is in place for the period it takes for the house to be practically completed - as a general rule BB Barossa Bubbles Building own design Fairmont Homes viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51265&hilit=Barossa+Bubbles Roof on-bricks next Re: Builders Warranty Insurance 3Mar 20, 2012 6:53 pm Does that mean that from the time the builder considers the house practically completed to when the owner gets the keys, its no longer covered? My builder has sent me a notice of practical completion, even though the house is not complete.... should I be organising insurance (most policies dont apply until you occupy)? Re: Builders Warranty Insurance 4Mar 21, 2012 8:01 am Sorry I shouldn't have said practically completed - Not practical completion as specified by the builder, all the way to the end and when you get the keys. The bank and the builder will require you to show a Certificate of Currency for the insurance - probably before you get the key actually, which you just need to organise your insurance and ask for one - all insurance agents know what one is.
