Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 19, 2012 8:50 am Hi all, I was just wondering if any one has any info on Hebel. Wanted to know the pro's and con's. We have included it in our build but been hearing a lot of negative things of late and now i'm having second thoughts. Any info from some one who knows would be great... cheers Re: Hebel 2Mar 19, 2012 9:15 am Pros - quick to go up, excellent thermal properties cons - movement shows up as cracks in the joins, and a big negative is that once your house is complete you cant bolt anything onto it unless you can locate the stud behind it. I'm sure there are other pros and cons Re: Hebel 3Mar 19, 2012 9:44 am We had Hebel on our first home. As per above, you'll get movement cracks. Also, with age, it appears there's very subtle warping (or perhaps just movement of the frame) making it easy to see each individual block in some angles of light. Also, if you paint them, this fades and needs redoing down the track. Re: Hebel 5Mar 19, 2012 10:52 am This may be too late for you, but have you considered Rapidwall as an alternative to Hebel. Look them up on rapidwall.com.au . It is a single panel walling system that serves as both the internal and external wall and eliminates the need for bricks, blocks, timber and steel wall frames and plasterboard linings. Have a look at their site - if you're not already too commited it may be something to consider. "Whoever says sunshine brings happiness has never danced in the rain!" I was looking at different options for a fence for my build and Hebel PowerFence seemed like a good option (one of the criteria was a solid wall look). However, I don't… 0 5896 1 6629 1000000% definitely add insulation. I have in my home and it makes a big difference minimising sound transfer. Insulation is pretty cheap and definitely worth it 2 6191 |
