Browse Forums Building A New House 1 May 02, 2015 1:48 pm Hi all, My husband and I have visited so many display homes recently and I'm wondering if anyone can advise me about something. We like a couple of the floor plans from some of the project homes, but to be honest we're not very happy with the way that the kitchens all look the same, regardless of upgrades, etc. I know that once you've chosen to build with a particular builder like say Eden Brae or any of those builders, you have to go with the kitchen designs and upgrades that are in their range; they won't allow you to source your own supplies. I was wondering if there are builders out there who will let you source the supplies for your kitchen, bathroom, etc, and use those supplies instead of their own range? Re: Need advice! 2May 02, 2015 2:15 pm Have you considered going with a custom builder? They are more expensive but generally quite flexible and are likely to allow you to source your own supplies. Re: Need advice! 3May 02, 2015 2:15 pm I feel exactly the same as you and from what I can tell you have to go with the custom builders kitchens.... I have heard some people discuss getting the basic kitchen and after hand over rip it out and replace with their dream kitchen. Re: Need advice! 4May 02, 2015 2:24 pm Do you know how much more expensive the custom builders are? I agree, but I feel like it's so wasteful to pay good money for a kitchen that you don't like at all, only to pay more money for your dream kitchen. Does anyone know who the custom builders are in Western Sydney? We're going to be building in stonecutters ridge. Re: Need advice! 5May 02, 2015 2:53 pm What would you like to change to make the kitchen different? Our builder isn't specifically custom, but I haven't felt any particular restriction on what we can do in the kitchen. Are you finding limits on materials, like stone types, lamintes, 2pac colours etc? You could find a picture of a kitchen with the features you like, and show it to the sales consultant, asking whether they can do that. Re: Need advice! 7May 02, 2015 4:11 pm We are from the Illawarra and we will be going with adlington homes. They are a custom builder and they are allowing us to source whatever items we want. I don't know how much more expensive custom builders are. Project builders didn't want to build on my block Levelling compound Ardit is the best but buy a bag of sand and make sand dam to protect your wood floor 2 15255 XCEM Alpha flooring seems to relatively new and I could not found any reviews. Have you or someone you know have used it and would recommend over other subfloor options?… 2 7594 I’m not a structural engineer but I’m free. you still need an engineer for the plans. I only have part of your plans, but you seem to have a 850mm drop from the side… 3 9956 |
