Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 12, 2012 11:35 am We are building with Rawson Homes and I'm hoping that on this thread I can show people our progress (incase anyone else wants to build with them and wants to hear how it goes - hopefully good!) and ask for advice and talk things through My husband works in WA so the majority of the research and decisions have been mine (however he still gets to have his say of course) We are building with Rawson because they have made us feel very comfortable, been more than happy to answer any of our questions and their inclusions seem to be among some of the best out there. When we first spoke to them they seemed a little expensive but when we weighed it up they were in fact not that bad! At this stage I have sent our Final Check plans back so that they can be drawn up and sent to council for approval. This means that we are also in the process of choosing our external colours and before long we will be doing our electrical and internal colours! It's all so exciting and I can't wait to see it finished. These are our plans (keep in mind that some changes still need to be drawn - extended alfresco and a couple of changes to the top floor) This is the display that is at Waterford County. Hopefully ours will look like this one day (when we eventually get some $$ to render with haha) When I get home from work I'll try and put up some of our colour selections so far My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 2Mar 12, 2012 3:50 pm Looking forward to following your journey! I like the Benham, it's a really lovely design, and the display home at Waterford County is lovely!! We're building the Seaview 36 and we're at the same stage as you, just waiting on our electrical appointment (and our land to register) Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 3Mar 12, 2012 6:39 pm Hey Tarsha, Where abouts are you building? My partner and i are looking to build to build the Metford 28 and have requested tender. Would be great to share ideas and experiences with other Rawson builders! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 4Mar 12, 2012 10:22 pm smorgzzz Looking forward to following your journey! I like the Benham, it's a really lovely design, and the display home at Waterford County is lovely!! We're building the Seaview 36 and we're at the same stage as you, just waiting on our electrical appointment (and our land to register) The Seaview is very similar to the Benham except you have another room lol and its such a fantastic design! I went through the one in Sydney and almost changed my mind haha Hopefully your land is registered soon.. Ours was all ready to go but we tried to hold out a little bit Have you had your colour appointment? I'm getting a little nervous about it lol sixor Hey Tarsha, Where abouts are you building? My partner and i are looking to build to build the Metford 28 and have requested tender. Would be great to share ideas and experiences with other Rawson builders! Hey sixor we are building in Darcy's Peak which is near Maitland. The metford is another really nice plan have you been through the one at Waterford County? We dealt with the Sales guy there and he estimated the price of our tender and was only out $50. So far we have found them really great to deal with. Hopefully your tender comes in good! There aren't many people on here with info about Rawson so it is definitely good to hear from other people I havent gotten all of the pictures together for colours yet but hopefully over the next few days I will add them My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 5Mar 13, 2012 7:07 am Tarsha - We've done our colour consultation - the lady in Sydney is extremely helpful and really lovely to deal with, she's put up with all our changes and requests. The key to the colour appointment is to do your homework before you go there, so there are no surprises. We liked a lot of the colours that are in the display homes, so it was easy for them to let us know what was used. We're waiting on our electrical appointment, which should be in the next few weeks. We fell in love with the Seaview, it's so beautifully decorated (all their homes are in fact) We originally wanted to build the Eden, but opted for a double storey to get more of a yard. We decided to remove the carpets in an attempt to save cash and do it after handover. If the standard carpet is good we may just go with that Thanks! Re: Our Benham 33 journey 8Mar 13, 2012 9:37 pm Hi smorgzzz! good to hear! I was a bit nervous about it but i think I'm doing ok with the research so far I'm really hoping they can help with colours lol I've met the site supervisor and he seems very flexible and helpful as is our Pre construction consultant. The decor in their houses is fabulous but I just loved how not everything is an upgrade lol We also opted for a double story for the exact same reason Sixor we did have the carpet etc credited as the sales guy said it would most likely work out cheaper esp. since we wanted alot of tiling done And BradS I have sent you a PM however I am aware that alot of people build with project builders so there are bound to be some bad stories out there.. I havent heard any yet about Rawson and even the people that had some difficulties seem to be very happy with the outcomes. (I am still interested to hear any issues in case it gives me tips on things I should look out for) My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 9Mar 14, 2012 9:41 am tarsha678 The decor in their houses is fabulous but I just loved how not everything is an upgrade lol I will quote this in here and hope that was extreme sarcasm as i am currently rolling on the floor in stitches. The CSO allocted to our house told me EVERYTHING was upgraded on the display home we looked at (Clifton in Kellyville). Not even the paint was from their standard supplier Re: Our Benham 33 journey 10Mar 14, 2012 12:12 pm tarsha678 & smorgzzz, What have you upgraded so far & what are you planning on upgrading? Fingers crossed we won't have to upgrade too many items from what comes standard however its hard to decide when we haven't seen the range... Re: Our Benham 33 journey 11Mar 14, 2012 3:41 pm BradS I'm more referring to the displays at waterford county where alot of the fitouts are standard. The standard inclusions are quite high and I wouldn't even be bothered to ask about the paint on the wall lol. I'm talking about the fact that the kitchen inclusions are great, flooring is included, feature walls are included, the electrical fitout is already quite good.. Things such as Gas points, insulation and sarking are all included (alot of builders dont include) I understand that you haven't had a great experience and I appreciate the information but at the moment I feel like you are trying to kinda rain on my parade.. Sixor We have made a couple of changes to the plans (I love that we were able to move walls and rooms and not be charged for it) but we havent upgraded too much. We took up the living sensations promo and i think I'm going to ask if we can get the Night Sky benches instead of the Zulu but apart from that it will most likely be bathroom tiles and fittings.. We are looking at doing alot of things ourselves like shelving, carpet, tiles, driveway etc I've been on the suppliers websites looking at the options and the sales guy suggested that we go and have a look at tradelink because that is where they get their things from.. Does anyone know if a glass splashback is an upgrade? My friend has it standard in her rawson tender but i wasnt sure if that was just with her house design lol My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 12Mar 14, 2012 7:43 pm Built the Seaview 36 with Rawson Homes - Read about it on my blog http://lamaisondemorgan.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 13Mar 14, 2012 7:58 pm We went with the standard range of carpet & upgraded the underlay to a thicker underlay. We decided to get them to do the carpet & tiling, because it'll get us into the home sooner, rather than having to get it done before hand over on our own. We've done a few upgrades: Air Conditioning Caesarstone to bathrooms, waterfall edges to kitchen Butlers Pantry fit out with bench, overhead cupboards & pantry cupboard Victorian Ash staircase & glass balustrade Lowered feature ceilings to entry & kitchen Extra height ceilings to downstairs Freestanding bath to ensuite Pivot door & handle to entry Cavity Sliding door to laundry External door to garage Feature colour for overhead cupboards in kitchen Rain showerhead to ensuite Shelving to ensuite (laminate) Upgrade underlay Double towel rails Gas point to alfresco Water point to fridge space We'll also add downlights & extra powerpoints to some rooms downstairs. My husband is a builder and we looked at loads of project home builders and Rawson stacked up for us. He has looked at their homes in all stages of construction and is extremely happy with their quality of work so far, so we're looking forward to having our home built. Re: Our Benham 33 journey 15Mar 14, 2012 11:38 pm Wow Smorgzzz thats some great upgrades! Our budget doesnt quite stretch that far at the moment however we shall see how it ends up once we go for colours haha we have done the tap to the fridge though If you dont mind me asking is the Rain Showerhead the big square one? And did they hit you hard for that and the double towel rack? (feel free to PM if you dont want to post costs etc) We also put another rollerdoor on the back of our garage in place of side access took the post out from where the corner of the stacker doors is Removed shelving in the WIR for master as I want to fit it out I'm considering the Caesarstone to bathrooms and also didnt realise that it costs extra to have the different colour on the overhead cupboards in the kitchen (oh well lol) Miss Windsor We're looking at building either a Clifton or Benham at Fern Bay so will be following this thread with interest. How exciting!! Fern Bay is right near where I currently live the Metri*** homes out there are really nice however a tad too expensive lol (The Benham is fantastic ) My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 16Mar 15, 2012 5:34 am Hi Miss Windsor I'm looking forward to hearing all about your build! Have you looked through the Sydney display homes? (The Canberra ones are fabulous too!) We have our electrical consult in a few weeks time, I'm sure that will hurt!!! Fantastic upgrades I'm jealous of anyone with a butlers pantry! What's your block size? Is it in an already developed area? Ally Re: Our Benham 33 journey 19Mar 16, 2012 1:03 pm daveandally1 Your house looks beautiful and the floorplan is lovely look forward to following this thread. Fantastic upgrades I'm jealous of anyone with a butlers pantry! What's your block size? Is it in an already developed area? Thanks Ally! The butlers kitchens are really nice (unfortunately its one of the only things we dont have - however im not much of a cook haha) The block size is 559sqm and our section of the estate is already developed with the exception of a few blocks. They are currently opening the next few stages though so plenty more blocks for sale News update! our check plans have been sent back and now we are just waiting for the estimators to draw them up for council and we put in for the loan and its all looking good so far! Wow its all exciting! Now to wait for our colour consult My very first blog http://benham33.blogspot.com.au/ Re: Our Benham 33 journey 20Mar 17, 2012 5:34 am Will you travel to Sydney for your colour consult? Our contract is on it's way to us!! Electrical consult coming soon! (That's the one I'm worried about!)
