They measure 56cm wide, 25cm high and one is 13cm deep and the other is 9cm deep. My only problem is they could have been a few cm higher as the bottles with the pumps sit right to the top. I just put the soap into smaller containers. http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af187/Kaytee50/Williams%20Landing/11220117.jpg http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af187/Kaytee50/Williams%20Landing/112201110.jpg http://i1006.photobucket.com/albums/af187/Kaytee50/Williams%20Landing/11220119.jpg A balanced diet is chocolate in both hands. Couple of weeks i can hopefully show you some pics, it doesnt look very interesting at the moment. Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 26Jun 19, 2012 8:51 pm * jas * I wish we could have one but our builder won't do it due to waterproof issues and I can't do it after the build unless I remove a whole wall of tiles and it's just too expensive. This is something which I've been wondering about for our bathroom reno and the waterproofing is an important part of the question for me. Are niches more difficult to waterproof reliably than the shower as a whole, or is it that your builder wants to keep things simpler and easier for himself? Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 27Jun 19, 2012 10:29 pm I've always loved the thought of having a niche in my ensuite.. I just find some shelving to be ugly or gets in the way while drying yourself. I just found out today I get one standard in my ensuite.. I wouldnt have had the spare money to put one in otherwise. Waterproofing was a slight concern also though. Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 28May 21, 2014 11:43 pm Mclaren Buttercup I would have loved a shower niche but our builder charges $350 each so it's shower caddies for us What about a nice shelf on the wall of the shower? We bought two lovely glass shelves - $66 each and DH put them up. Hi Mclaren, I know it's been a while since you posted here but is there any chance you could post pics of these glass shelves you speak of?? Much appreciated! Our Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72518 Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 29May 21, 2014 11:46 pm Pete_n_Pet Deemaree We put a niche in the main bathroom ( slightly higher than Rowena's above) and a glass shelf in the ensuite. The niche works fine- but TBH I prefer the glass shelf! We had a glass shelf in our last bathroom renovation. It was fine. Am a little concerned about the comments re waterproofing with the shower niche shelf ..... Hi! Any chance of a pic? Our Build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=72518 Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 30May 22, 2014 12:03 am Instead of a niche in our ensuite we are getting a 900mm high x 90mm thick tiled wall to the back of the shower (hope that makes sense) it is just like a stepped tile wall shelf. Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 32May 23, 2014 9:16 am Here is a built-in shower shelf pinched from EmyN's build here viewtopic.php?f=31&t=65085&p=1177666#p1177666 I think this is what belzey above is having too. The waterproofing for any of these shelves or niches etc are no more difficult than for any other part of the bathroom. A builder who tells you otherwise is just using that as an excuse. Stewie Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 33May 23, 2014 12:33 pm Oi! You pinched my pic! Haha. Yes I'm very happy with our ledge, it runs the whole length of our walk in shower. I'm going to put an orchid and other pretty things at the other end. We queried why it was so expensive to put a niche or a ledge in and they explained it's because they basically have to make the wall double thick in order to achieve it, as well as increase tiling and waterproofing etc. One thing to make sure of is that the tiles of the ledge/niche floor slightly tilt AWAY from the wall because my poor parents have niches that tilt towards the wall and they are forever having to wipe and squeegee gross collected water away from the wall. I told them they should have complained to their builder at PCI but they were too traumatised by their whole build process and just wanted to get in! Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 38May 24, 2014 8:38 pm I specified a niche but when it went to drafting they said it can't be done on an external wall, so I had to go to a glass shelf. I queried if the mounts eventually rust but the consultant said they've had no issues with this. I queried if the mounts eventually rust but the consultant said they've had no issues with this. I too am concerned they may rust. I guess it depends on what they're made of. Where did you buy your glass shelves? Re: recessed niche shelf in shower - does it work? 40May 25, 2014 11:19 am It really bugs me when i hear builders gouging over the simplest of things. Ours refused to do them plain and simple. As I was using a separate chippie to work on the old part of my house, I asked if he would do it while onsite one day. Ten minutes later and a few pieces of timber, they were in. The waterproofers didn't bat an eyelid and my tiler said it added about an hour to his work. So as far as time it probably cost me $100 bucks for both if that. I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
