Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Mar 08, 2012 1:15 pm Thought I create a new topic about building at McCauley's Beach Thirroul as there doesn’t seem to be anything on here. Everyone is welcome to post comments re home build progress, design ideas, issues with builders, issues with developers, issues or unexpected requirements from Wollongong City Council etc etc.... (Be nice) It seems a lot of locals have bought in the area... I know both my next door neighbours and the people across the road and none of us have started building yet! I'll kick the ball off... Decided to build the Galileo 22 by Wisdom homes (narrow width home due to width of block) Received tender from builder and have requested a few changes be made (additional windows, deletion of floor coverings, addition lighting, additional gas point for the BBQ), excluded rendering of face brick as is cheaper to be done directly with the renderers. All is going well at this stage... no major dramas! Look forward to hearing from others... Re: Building at McCauley's Beach Thirroul, NSW 2Mar 08, 2012 9:47 pm Hi beached_as, Did you know there is an acoustic report on Stckland's i-scope website? Your builder will have access to this. You may not need another acoustics report. We are building in Stage 2. We had been looking at project homes for many months, and were very close to signing with Metrcion Homes (Liberty 40). However, they were not prepared to negotiate on a couple of curly contract cluases, so we pulled the plug. After much soul searching, we decided to downsize, and go donw the custom build route. I am so glad we did now. as we now have a house that is designed to fit our block perfectly, and incorporates some fantastic outdoor spaces for entertaining, and playing. Hoping to lodge our plans to Stocklands on Monday! I am getting really excited. Can't wait to build. If anyone can recommend custom builders in the Illawarra region, let me know, as we will be tendering our design in late April. Cheers, Re: Building at McCauley's Beach Thirroul, NSW 3Mar 14, 2012 3:15 pm Hi seanr53, Thanks for the advice re acoustic report. I ended up finding it via google and sent it onto the builder, you just saved $1500. If anyone else is looking for it you can find it at the following link: http://www.planning.nsw.gov.au/asp/pdf/ ... report.pdf I'd love to build a custom design home, but to do that i'd have to stay there for a long time to justify the expense and effort. I plan on staying in our new home for about 10 years max then upgrade from there. Given the coastal environment we will be living i think it is wise to incorporate outdoor living and entertaining areas into a home rather than building a huge house on practically ever m2 of the block. Will have about 18m from the back of our house to the back fence so it will leave heaps of space to build a deck and pergola and still have grass for kids/dogs to play. Good luck with you approval. To date Council has been fantastic to deal with. We are about to start our slab in the next week or so and are building with Fowler Homes. Very keen to hear your progress. Re: Building at McCauley's Beach Thirroul, NSW 5Nov 08, 2012 5:31 pm Hi Guys, Im a local Builder in the Bulli area and have been seeing the progress of the the houses going up in Thirroul. Just to let you know, I have recieved some calls from some people building and wanting extras like a deck, outdoor roofing or other building work which is quite expensive going through the project home companies. If you would like to compare i would be happy to give you a quote. Good luck with Building!
