Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 24, 2012 11:48 am Hi After all the rain we have experienced west of Sydney we have had 10 working days of pure sunshine. And all our builder has managed to do is get the upper storey eave linings up. He keeps using the rain as an excuse. What do you think is this unreasonable. He seems to only book one trade in a week even if it only takes a day. We are pulling our hair out Re: 10 days of sunshine only one day with trades on site 3Feb 24, 2012 12:33 pm Is the builder behind on his schedule? I guess if he's not then there's reason to make a point of getting the work done, but if they are on schedule then surley it wouldn't matter? Re: 10 days of sunshine only one day with trades on site 4Feb 24, 2012 1:16 pm If you consider all the jobs on which tradies were scheduled to work on during the big wet you guys have had up there then you might realise there's probably more than a bit of a backlog. I know it's frustrating to not see anything happening, but you should try not to fall into the trap of thinking that tradies have a free schedule as soon as the weather clears up - the sort of horrible weather you have been having is bound to cause a great big mess when it comes to construction schedules. Tradies also generally run of a fairly tight schedule as well and often jobs they can't start on get shuffled back in the order so that they can start working on jobs they can start on (it's not like they'll sit around not getting paid due to the bad weather just so they can start on your job as soon as the weather clears). It sucks but in the end you just have to be patient. Obviously if it keeps dragging on for another week or two then start making some enquiries, but give things a bit of time to sort themselves out first and remember that there are many other builds that are probably in the same boat up there - there are always bound to be "losers" in the shake up after a big disruption but everybody does get sorted out eventually and I'm pretty sure that tradies up your way will be running around like the proverbial chook with its head cut off trying to clear the backlog over the next few weeks... Some people apparently have nothing better to do than comment on other people's sigs. 4 6814 8 6082 Always get multiple quotes, no matter how reasonable/cheap you think it is.
