Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 17, 2012 2:11 pm We ordered a GeoTech report through our builder a while back and the company has taken their sweet time doing it, almost a month now. We're putting pressure on the builder and in turn they're putting pressure on the GeoTech company, who have now said that they were on site early last week and just have to type up the report. My partner and I were at our land yesterday though and didn't see any new bore holes aside from the two that were done a couple of months ago for our soil tests. We're planning on going back today to have a closer look for more. A civil engineer I was talking to said to expect 9-12 bore holes, along the outside of where the foundation will go and across where the slab will be. The same engineer told me about unscrupulous GeoTech companies who will use someone else's test results to do your report if they couldn't be bothered drilling bore holes on your site So I'm a little nervous. Has anyone else had GeoTech done? Do you know how many holes were bored on your site for GeoTech and were you given evidence that the GeoTech company were actually on your site? Thanks! Re: GeoTech report - have you had one done? 2Feb 17, 2012 2:20 pm Hi there, Don't stress too much what I would do if I were you is I would call the company that did it anonymously and ask them how they do their tests and how many bore holes to expect. Say you are figuring out who to use. Also ask them if they refill their holes. This should give you some indication towards what is happening I don't really have any experience in this but that is jsut my 2 cents. There is some more information about site investigation here. http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?cat=46 The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Re: GeoTech report - have you had one done? 4Feb 17, 2012 11:29 pm Thanks for the feedback guys. We went to our land this arv and definitely no new boreholes or any evidence of soil disturbance at all Bashworth, we had a soil classification done a couple of months ago and due to the results of the two bores they did then (slightly reactive soil, rock, limited top soil in areas) our builder recommended a full slope stability report which is what they're supposed to be doing now. They said that slope stability can be affected by 'floaters', loose sections of large rock underground, which would be identified in this report. Would they recommend another investigation that only drilled two more bores for soil analysis? Our house is three storeys on two separate slabs on a sloping block in an area with a lot of rock, hence them recommending further investigation. Re: GeoTech report - have you had one done? 5Feb 18, 2012 7:08 am From the sound of it you certainly have a more complex house than the standard. I would have expected that there would be more than 2 boreholes unless those holes were very deep ( most boreholes stop on encountering rock but from the comments drilling through any rock floaters may be required to establish solid rock) The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
