Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Our M3tric0n story 70Jul 08, 2008 9:16 pm wonderland with regards to the termite hoses, did you have to pay for that or is that an inclusion in your base price? Cheers Out here in the sticks, there is a significant mark-up on the cost of the house, but it does include some inclusions that are normally regarded as extras in metro areas. Termite protection as shown, flyscreens, trenching and connection of 2 phone points, are the main ones. Geoff - Decophile. No, M's standard height is still 2400, but everyone is getting the 2550 because of their 'special'. I think PD and C@rlisle Homes have ceilings which are 2570. Re: Our M3tric0n story 73Jul 09, 2008 9:40 pm Sneak preview of cabinetry, which got delivered today. The doors are all 'Raven' in colour, the laminex benchtops for the bathrooms is 'Pearl Mist' and we went for the brushed stainless look for door handles in the kitchen to match all the appliances. Handles for the laundry and bathrooms are of different profile and of chrome finish to match tapware. Ceaserstone benchtops (Seattle Sky) for the kitchen will arrive later.
One of the two kitchen overhead cupboards. The rangehood will bridge the gap between the angled shelf ends of the cupboards. It is upside down here. Cabinetry has been installed, downpipes installed and connected, base render applied, more architraving, and tiling begun. Painters due next week. We could be in in 5 - 6 weeks, Helyn!
The bad: I know this is a common occurrence to many, but we are disappointed to lose our supervisor, who is a top bloke. He hasn't quit or done anything wrong, it was just a territorial re-shuffle that sees him replaced with the bloke we were meant to get in the first place anyway. A bit of a shame he's not allowed to see the job through though. He's taken a lot of pride in our house because it was the first house under his control from scratch and he deserves better than to be shunted aside in the final stages. The ugly: How hard is it to get simple things fixed? The back door, when it was originally fitted weeks ago, had the hole cut out to accept the door knob and lock mechanism. Apparently the distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the hole is normally either 60mm or 70mm. The builder cut the hole at 70mm. Of course, the mechanism only needed a 60mm offset, so the striker didn't reach the latch. A new door was subsequently ordered. Do you think anyone can get him back to fit the bloody thing??? Here we are, maybe receiving handover in 6 weeks, yet the house still can't be locked up! Anyway, there's plenty of photos here of the progress. First up is a general view of the kitchen. The plywood on the bench tops is a template for the CaesarStone, which comes later. A pleasing aspect of the cabinetry being fitted was seeing how accurate the cabinets and walls were; I've heard horror stories about some builders having variations in the gap between the benchtops and walls of up to 20mm, ours were damn near spot on. By the way the tiler is the first of the many different tradies to work on the house consistently after hours and on the weekend. Good on ya, D! Since this photo was taken they have been connected to the stormwater system. The pegs in the ground show the location of where the dividing fence will go. It will be colourbond, with the frame sections Deep Ocean equivalent, again to match the trims on the house, and the panels Shale Grey equivalent, which should match the render and shed in the back yard.
