Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 23, 2008 7:19 pm We have just had our roof tiles completed this week....
My question for the masses is: Is the mortar colour for the roof tiles supposed to match the roof tile colour? Our roof tiles are black but the mortar looks more greyish.... the first pic is our house: http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee299/matthewnathan/950cdf13.jpg this pic is of another home behind us, by our builder with black roof and black mortar??? http://i235.photobucket.com/albums/ee299/matthewnathan/bfd8ea56.jpg Our S/S said that our tilers need to come back to put the colour on...But how? Do they mortar and come back for a second coat or seal a colour on with paint??? I assumed that the mortar would just be black to match the tiles!! Does anyone know the process? Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 2Feb 23, 2008 7:29 pm Wait for confirmation from Michelle, but the brick mortar colour and the roof tile colour do not have to match!
In fact, it's better that the brick mortar colour works well with the bricks, regardless of the roof tile colour. Then it's a matter of ensuring that the brick and mortar colour works well with the colour of the gutters, downpipes, fascia, garage door, front door, any rendered sections and the roof tiles. Not sure why they would need to match P. In fact I think it might look odd if they were the same given your brick colour. IMO . I'd stay with the colours that you have. Did the brickies suggest something different?? Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 4Feb 23, 2008 7:37 pm I assume P is referring to the mortar in the roof tile capping not the bricks
I can't really help too much as our tiles are too far up to see, but I wouldn't think that the mortar would be a feature . Just wait and see what they come up with. Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 5Feb 23, 2008 7:44 pm Sorry guys, maybe i needed to be MORE SPECIFIC.
I meant that the mortar used for the roof tile capping looks greyish against the black roof tiles. But yet our neighbours has black coloured mortar with their roof tiles. Why is there a difference, what's the process with the mortaring of the roof capping tiles???? Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 6Feb 23, 2008 7:47 pm I think they will definately come back and point it up
(not that I know anything bout anything!) not sure what your tiles are but this is a helpful website showing tile stages http://www.bristileroofing.com.au/brist ... lation.php Ive seen them do the pointing up later sometimes Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 7Feb 23, 2008 7:57 pm Oops, you were talking about the tile mortar! In that case it certainly should match the colour of the tiles. That's probably whey they haven't taken down the safety rails too... Much appreciated....Good site that. Yes we have Bristile tiles too. Why is there a difference, what's the process with the mortaring of the roof capping tiles???? P I was talking about the roof mortar! Nice overall effect. I think they look fine ... maybe it doesn't show up in the pic Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 10Feb 23, 2008 11:39 pm I am with Casa, better to match (read: suit) the mortar to the brick. Believe me, if you think the colour scheme you had selected is good, it will be. Me too, had a big headache last time when selecting the colour, too many choices. But the colour scheme seems to be good.
oznow Re: Roof Tile & Mortar Colours 11Feb 24, 2008 1:41 pm I prefer the same colour - black capping mortar with black tiles (nothing to do with the bricks!). Ours is black with black tiles, and as far as I know it was how it went on (not some paint later). We didn't have an option to choose the colour so I assume it would be a given that they match?
