HardiFlex is a heavier material and it absorbs less moisture than plasterboard. Its extra weight may have minor implications in rafter/batten sizes. I'm not sure which is more fire resistant or which provides better thermal or sound insulation properties, can anyone comment? My guess is that it is probably better on both fronts. Finish wise, my gut feel is that plasterboard is easier to get a smoother finish as it is gypsum covered in paper. I'm sure a few others will have some much more insightful information!! Plasterboard will be finished to look like one big piece of sheeting with no joins (the same as the ceilings inside the house), whereas hardiflex will have strips joining each sheet (like your eave lining).
