Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 30, 2012 2:21 pm Hi everyone, I was hoping that some of you might be able to provide some advice on site excavation. We are building on a sloping block (Dorren, VIC), and as such need quite a bit of soil removed and taken away. Our builder (haven't signed contract yet though) has come back and quoted $25,000 just for the removal. It's quite a bit of soil (around 400 cubic metres - 20 * 20 * 1 metres deep). I'm not expecting it to be cheap, but this price seems a little over the top and probably involves some large padding for the builder. Has anyone got experience with this? Is this price about right? Anyone know anybody if I organised it privately etc? All help greatly appreciated. Thanks Re: Site Excavation help - builder charging too much? 2Jan 30, 2012 4:19 pm Is it clean? And if so it looks like you may have a bit of time up your sleeve so why not try and see if anyone is after some clean fill or soil. Advertise it for free and see if you can even half the amount you need to pay to have removed. http://camdenbuild.blogspot.com.au/ by invite only please pm me Re: Site Excavation help - builder charging too much? 3Jan 30, 2012 5:18 pm Have a look at this thread to see how much some people in this forum have paid for soil removal http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=18706 In Victoria, soil is dumped at Lantrak (not Landtrak. Be careful with your spelling). Call them up and ask for a quote. There's a free quote on the Lantrak website. If you decide to do the excavation yourself, you might need to apply for an owner builder (OB) licence. See my comment here for the risks of excavating yourself. http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=50268 If you really want to hire your own excavator person, call Steve on 0418541850 (Melbourne) for a quote. He's used by most of major builders in victoria (he was recommended to me by a Homeone forum member called lisahello). I ended up getting my builder to do my excavation instead of Steve, as it's too risky to go OB. I paid my builder $12,800 for excavation (inclusive of soil/spoil removal). My 604sqm land had a fall of 6m (3.5m fall across the building envelope footprint of 200sqm.
