From the looks of that scratch, it is at least a few millimetres deep. if the door is chipped the door company needs to replace it. sanding a door will not fix a chip out of it. The reason a painter sands a door is to roughen up the surface to provide a suitable paintable surface so that the paint will adhere. it has nothing to do with removing imperfections. paint is measured in thicknesses of hundredths of millimetres, it isn't some miracle "cover up all the bad stuff" product. Re: Custom Gemmill home in Bedfordale - Handover tomorrow 1834Jul 19, 2013 10:37 pm LeanneR Busy celebrating? Hope today went well Tracyw So????? I was just about to go to bed and remembered I hadn't updated my thread... thought it best I do it before you lot sent out the lynch mob Ok.... so.... We have keys!!!!!!!!!!!! We also have a lovely goodies basket with lots of yummy treats from pasta to lollies and of course wine Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The inspection went ok. Most of the stuff that required fixing was related to the painter and I'm not sure we will ever be completely happy with his work. There are still a few things outstanding - kitchen bifold window, front doors and laundry vinyl slider all to be replaced. The kitchen window is going to take a long time to be fixed but hopefully the others will be sorted soon. Our SS is great and I feel sorry for him because he has been let down by the painter. Anything that we are not completely happy with in regards to the painting will now be fixed by his usual painters when they stain the new front doors, or by the maintenance department painter during our 6 month maintenance. We only went back to the house briefly this afternoon after getting keys because we didn't want to run in to the painter who was there fixing up his fixups again. I planned to start moving some stuff this weekend but not too sure if I should now because one of the doors will still be on construction lock. My brain feels like mush at the moment I'm hoping a good nights sleep will prepare me for some decision making and planning tomorrow Our custom Gemmill Home in Bedfordale WA Build thread:https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53788 Timeline on page 1 Re: Custom Gemmill home in Bedfordale - Handover tomorrow 1835Jul 19, 2013 10:40 pm dhalphir what do you expect a painter to do about a chip in a wooden door? The door itself was not chipped, the paint was, so sanding it back and repainting the door (which the painter has now done) has fixed it. It must be a surreal feeling! I must admit I think I was most let down by the paint finish in our place too We just had 6 month paint touch ups for cornice cracks and the guy missed several that were highlighted on a plan. And the tiler did a cr apola job caulking after replacing tiles He was so rude making me feel that the cracked tiles were my fault that I will just watch a you tube tutorial on how to caulk or just live with it then let him back in my house. He forced me to have front door open and didn't even give me time to lock the cats up so I was stressed that one had escaped! (He was just hiding though!) Just a warning not to pin too much hope on the 6 months.... Jen Building with HomeGroupWA (started as Scott Park Homes ) - Grand Wisteria Check out my Build Thread!! Time line on P1. Just a warning not to pin too much hope on the 6 months.... Thanks Jen I don't really know how to explain how I am feeling It still doesn't seem real although I'm sure that will change the moment I start cleaning the house I'm hoping all the paint issues will be fixed before the 6 month thing although it would be almost impossible for the maintenance person to be any worse than the painter! LeanneR Congratulations!!!!!! Oh that basket looks full of goodies. Lucky! Hehe What was wrong with the front doors again? Why they being replaced? Thanks Leanne One of the doors has a big scratch in the timber. I thought only one would be replaced but the SS ordered two I'm extremely happy about this because the painter made a real mess of the glass panels in the door when staining and varnishing the doors.
