Hi all, we moved into our house in December but didn't get any flowers/wine/hamper from the builder.
I quite often read about people's presents from the builder so I'm curious, who is your builder and did you get a handover pressie?
We built with AV Jennings

We were given a choice of either a hamper or a $200 Harvey Norman voucher, we chose the voucher as we had so much shopping to do

Last year got a bottle of non alcoholic champagne and some cheap towels. Bottle went straight to the bin nd the towels lined the dog basket for about a month before they too went in the bin.
Just recently on another handover got a bottle of 2008 sem Sauvignon blanc that was nearly rancid but kept a couple of good wine glasses, glass not crystal or anything worth more than 20 clams.
Some people get BBQ,s and dishwashers , a night at a hotel etc but with most people that choose to build doing it so rarely and builders that change name so frequently to protect how crap they are, I'm not surprised , it just eats into their bottom line if they spend too much .
Buying a new car, that's a different story entirely, cos your gonna buy another if the deal went well in 3 to 6 years time. By the time you get to handover you are just happy it's all over ( yeah I know it rarely is cos there is still plenty of dramas to sort out ) that looking at your quarter mill of a house or a basket of cheap rubbish is no comparison at all.
Builders need to concentrate on giving you what you paid for instead of sugar coating their mistakes
Rant over.... Enjoy Oz day
Or the heat if your in Perth.

We got a nice house number - it looks like slub-glass (but is plastic for safety) with silver numbers on it. Very happy with it and have had passer by stop and ask where we got it from. Very useful, saved us buying one.

That sounds like a lovely, useful gift movingGal. When we had done our walk through we came down to the kitchen to find our builder had set this up as our gift
We have been in our home for over a year & a half now & we received a bottle of wine & card from our builder at Christmas time, personally delivered by one of their wives. . .now that's customer service!

Handover present??? what's that??? I was lucky to get the keys and that only happened (literally) 10 mins before the removalist arrived. I'd been on the phone all morning getting legal advice because the builder was refusing handover, in fact 48 hrs previously he threatened to burn the house down. Why??? I can hear you ask, and that's a valid question ....he 'assumed' I wasn't going to make the final payment and was going to squat in the house, so he had all windows locked and doors barred.
Just shows the mentality of the person who calls himself a professional builder! Some mothers do have 'em!!!

We got a picnic insulated backpack with a bottle of wine. The backpack was excellent quality. Have to say though after a year of being in our house we havent used it and it's still sitting on the top shelf of our laundry cupboard:)
