If the builder knows that they have a monopoly on your business they are going to be less likely to negotiate. If you can show them that you can get something similar for a cheaper or similar price you are in a much better position bring the price down. It also helps if your expectations are realistic - I assume that you mean the driveway in your post? Depending on the size of the driveway, materials etc a driveway could be costing the builder $8,000 - $15,000. My understanding is that the margin on concrete/steel would be pretty slim so they are less likely to be providing this to you 'free' You are more likely to get 'upgrades' included free, rather than additional items - e.g Laminate benches upgraded to stone. This is because that the upgrade is usually at minimal cost to the builder (due to their volumes). But to have big tickets items such as ducted aircon or a driveway included free will be pushing it.
