Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 24, 2012 12:53 pm In the middle of last year there was a post regarding Taubmans Crisp White and that some people were finding it to be quite creamy. As my builder has specified Taubmans only and I have chosen Crisp White am wondering after reading those posts if there has been any development? Was it just a once off or should I be seriously looking at other shades? Previous home painted in Dulux Whisper White and loved it so definately don't want a warm/ochre white. Anyone used Crisp White lately? Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 2Jan 25, 2012 4:09 pm Our new house will be up to the interior painting stage within the next 2 weeks and we could only choose Taubmans paints too. We've gone with Talia Beige on the walls and Crisp White for ceiling, doors, skirtings and architraves. I'll let you know what it looks like once it goes on. I too am hoping it lives up to the "Crisp" name as that's the look we're after. cliffo Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 3Jan 25, 2012 5:42 pm Hi Bankgirl We were in the same situation whereby we could only choose from the Taubmans range. We ended up choosing SnowCloud, which turned out to be a lovely 'gentle' white that has complemented really nicely with the black edging of our windows and neutral enough to not be sooo stark against different colour combinations throughout our house. Hope this helps! We are having floorboards in Sydney Reds which throw a pink/red tone rather than a golden yellow tone. Other colours in the house are taupe (which errs on the side of grey rather than brown) and black. Actually I saw that called 'greige' somewhere this week which is appropriate. I will pop down to Bunnings on Saturday and get a sample. Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 5Jan 30, 2012 4:14 pm This reply may be a too late, but Snow Cloud is definitely a neutral tone. I'm averse to anything yellow (I seriously get nauseous looking at the colour ), so Snow Cloud would be a perfect complement to your floorboards. Our colour scheme is predominantly grey, black and white as we wanted to keep things 'classic', so hope that little bit of info helps out as well... The other white I was looking at was 'Princess Bling'. I bought 6 samples of Taubmans whites over the weekend (at Bunnings)and despite being told 'no they will not throw cream' guess what, all bar one did. The remaining colour threw a dirty green tone. Apparently there was no receipe for Snow Cloud. I have since read on this forum not to get samples from Bunnings. This morning I went to the nearest Taubmans Trade Centre and the chap there was a helpful as a hole in the head. I will pick up a sample of Snow Cloud tomorrow and see how it is. To be continued................. Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 7Jan 30, 2012 5:08 pm We had massive issues with colours for paint. Until we arranged a colour consultant. Best way to compare whites is my comparing them with other colours and pure white. My husband just thought all the samples we had were off white until consultant showed it against various shades and pointed out the pinks, creams, blues or greens in them. Moral of the story is to be careful when choosing whites. They may look white with cream etc but might be something else when with other colours. As ours is a private build there is are no 'colour sets' to choose from, we make the selections so I went to an independent colour consultant. This is where the paint problem began. The consultant choose two whites for us one being Crisp White and the other Snowy White. We made it very clear we wanted a greyed white even more of a greige colour to compliment the floors, kitchen etc. She said we need a white due to the large tree in the back yard although there is abundant light in the house (quite bright actually) We went along with the suggestion as that is what we paid for. As said earlier I bought samples of these and four other whites and found that they throw a cream tone where we live now and also at our new build. They look positively awful in a couple of the rooms. We blue tacked samples on the fridge to check them against white and that's when the yellow really shows through. To be honest the consultant was good on the exterior of the house she was not so good on the interior and in hindsight was trying to push her own taste on us. I have some idea of what I am doing and have no doubt that I could have done better and have as we have changed a couple of the selections already. Am going to source the sample of Ezy4few's Storm Cloud and another of Crisp White from a different shop just in case the tint mix at the previous place is incorrect. The saga goes on..... Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 9Feb 01, 2012 12:57 pm I have just come back from another branch of Taubmans Trade Centre. What a difference between the two stores! the salesperson at the Valley store could not have been more helpful. He listed to what I was looking for and pulled out samples and suggestions. We looked at the formulas of what I already have samples and why they are wrong. Interestingly he showed me the formula for Crisp White which has only ochre in in and no black. When I bought the sample at another store I was told it had only black and no ochre/magenta/yellow/umber in it. No wonder it looks cream it is cream. For whatever reason he did not have details for Snow Cloud which is what I wanted to see in the first place. Have decided to ask the builder for Resene Alabaster (at Taumans person suggestion) and if it just has to be off the Taubmans card then it will be Crystasl Gazing. Not quite the same but safe enough not to be cream. fFngers crossed Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 10Feb 01, 2012 1:55 pm Have you thought about Taubmans Frosted Ice? Very similar to Crystal Gazing. We chose this with advice from an interior decorator when we asked for a grey white (which had to be a Tuabmans colour), with no hint of cream. There is no cream going anywhere in my house! Ended up with taubmans torte. We too bought our samples from taubmans not buntings. Love the sample colour. Our painting is booked in for 2 weeks so fingers crossed. I dont know what it is about Taubmans whites, but they are really sensitive to light conditions and wall texture. We chose Crystal Gazing, which is supposed to have a degree of beige/brown/grey. On the wall, in anything other than sunlight, it is simply grey. If we were choosing again, we'd have chosen differently... Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 15Feb 23, 2012 6:55 am bOson, we did get samples and paint on boards and this is when we noticed that we had chosen incorrectly. Actually the colour consultant had chosen incorrectly but there you go. I am after a slightly greyed white - a definate cool white with absolutely no yellow undertone. I have found out through a huge amount of research (way too much time on my hands) that Taubmans paints are not true to sample pots or colour cards and like you said sensitive to surrounding conditions. This is probably why Dulux has it all over them in the marketplace. Very helpful chap at a Taubmans Colour Centre said that he suggests getting Taubmans pure white base and having it tinted in a Resene colour as their pigments are so much better. Hi Bankgirl How did you find these Taubmans Colour Centres? Are these paint shops with paint ranges that include Taubmans? The only retailers shown on the website appear to be Bunnings? Building ??? with ??? Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 17Feb 25, 2012 8:53 pm Buildingbee, in Brisbane there are a few Taubman's Trade Centres. I visited two of these and found the one at Wooloongabba to be a complete waste of time however the one at New Farm was great. The salesman there was extremely helpful and nothing was too much trouble. He was a good advertisement for Taubmans. I found the Trade Centres on the website. Not sure what area you in but hopefully Taubmans has the same arrangement there. I believe Amazing Paints also stocks Taubmans. Still waiting to see our colour on the walls but it is raining so might be waiting a while longer. So close and yet so far..... Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 18Feb 29, 2012 3:34 pm Hi.. Does anyone have a photo you can share of a Taubmans Crisp White on Walls against a ceiling white? We are almost ready for paint and want to achieve the modern contemporary look against the Charcoal slate floor tiles.. The ceiling will be Elusive white, so will the skirting, architraves and doors. Any information here will be much appreciated... Also don’t use Bunning’s samples pots as I believe they use the wrong base to begin with! Re: Yet another Taubmans white paint question 20Apr 15, 2012 9:30 pm The painting is finally done. We could not escape the Taubmans paints but as mentioned in an earlier post we tinted it a Resene colour. Downstairs we went for Resene Alabaster which is a gorgeous chalky white without a hint of cream or yellow. Upstairs we have used Resent Eighth Tea which is a true cool neutral once again without any yellow or pink. If anything is has a very very slight grey green to it but not so much as it is noticeable. We love it and are very happy with the choice. Goes beautifully with the Forest Reds timber floor. Would use both colours again in a heartbeat.
