Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 81Jun 20, 2012 9:21 pm Thanks everyone for the tips on splashbacks and curtains. At the moment it has taken a back seat as we are having bath dramas.... DH went to the house yesterday and saw through the window that the bath had been installed.... and it looked way too small! We met our site supervisor there this morning (I took an emergency day off work for this!) and sure enough, it looks too small. We want the bath to be a real feature and also big enough for two! Dechellis haven't made a mistake with the bath, it is the bath we selected at APBC but they didn't have it in stock the time so we didn't actually look at it and beleived it would be the size we wanted. However after seeing it installed today we changed our minds...oops! didn't see that coming! It made it easier to justify as the bath had been installed too low down so needed to be changed anyway. So we had Dechellis people quoting us on the cost of replacing the bath... and went back to check that the bath we wanted (which was the one we had wanted originally but decided not to as it was 3x the cost of the other) was still perfect. The great news is that Dechellis have really been good about it and as the bath we want (Decina Lago Dolce Vita) is in stock it shouldn't hold anything up too much. So that's been our drama for the day! In the meantime, Sampina came to deliver our kitchen while we were at the house, and (after getting their truck bogged), it's now all inside and half installed! I'll be trying to get photos on Friday... might be through the windows but hopefully not. So excited! Can see drawers with handles and oven tower through the window at the moment.... Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 82Jun 21, 2012 12:18 am I'm excited for you too It's a good job you noticed the bath before it was too late to change and even better that Dechellis have been so understanding https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 83Jun 21, 2012 12:10 pm We are finally about to start our Dechellis build. Good that you noticed before it was too late!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 85Jun 21, 2012 10:15 pm yes, nice to hear that D are accommodating. Hmmm, a bath that fits two people - wow...must be massive!! Can't wait to see the photos once the Decina bath goes in. They are nice baths. Will it be a spa bath? Now wouldn't that be nice!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 86Jun 24, 2012 4:01 pm WOW EKS your house is looking great!! I love the front door you have picked out....its lovely and modern and I haven't seen one like it before. Its really good to hear that Dechellis have been pretty accommodating and easy to deal with so far - puts my mind at ease a little. If you need any info on splashbacks and colours just PM me and I can give you my Dads details. Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 87Jun 26, 2012 2:27 pm Stuck at home with laryngitis, so what better to do (since I can't talk) than to finally upload some kitchen pics! It all looks fantastic, the excitement was a bit dulled by the bath dramas but when I went up there on Friday and saw all the kitchen cabinets fully installed I was thrilled! Didn't squeal, but rushed around trying out all the soft closing drawers (lovely) and looking in all the cupboards - isn't it great how Sampina can fit out the cupboard above the range hood to include some cute little shelves... pity they're way over my head but a good place for matches etc... So, here are the pics http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000455.jpg http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000454.jpg The cupboards are laminex snow drift, they're VERY white and shiny... hope we can keep them that way! Bathroom cupboards are laminex straight grain wenge, they look really dark in this pic but have a lovely wood grain finish, no gloss http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000443.jpg linen cupboard is the same finish as the kitchen http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000453.jpg here's the laundry in the same cupboard colour as the bathrooms, but this has a laminate benchtop rather than essastone http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000449.jpg And here's the bath that caused all the trouble, soon I'll be able to show you the new one! http://i1151.photobucket.com/albums/o621/eningelgen/WP_000456.jpg Tiling should be happening this week, with new bath going in, and then after that... taps? toilets? benchtops? surprise me!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 88Jun 26, 2012 2:32 pm P.S Stage #2, congratulations, hope you have smooth sailing, please start a thread so we can follow your build!! Monaco build, will PM you about the splashbacks LynneY - not a spa bath - just a regular bath (It's a bit of decadent luxury, really, as I am known to pass out in hot baths/spas/showers, not a good look!) Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 89Jun 26, 2012 4:41 pm Looking good ... hope you get better soon. We have laminex straight grain wenge throughout the house - a tip for cleaning finger prints off - a spray bottle with water and a bit of eucalyptus oil in it and a microfibre cloth ... Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 90Jun 26, 2012 4:55 pm EKS the kitchen looks lovely, can't wait to see it with the bench tops I love the two cupboards on the island that face the dining area, will be very handy. And I see you have someone testing them out too https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 91Jun 26, 2012 10:15 pm Hi E, Love the kitchen. I can't believe you didn't squeal.... I think I would squeal like a little girl!!! All looking so good, let's hope the bath gets replaced soon so we can check out the massive one. Can't wait to see the kitchen once it is complete. Bring on the photos. BTW - I hope you get over the laryngitis soon. PS - We signed up today- nervous but so excited at the same time!!! YAY!!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 92Jun 26, 2012 10:20 pm Me again, EKS - forgot to ask. I noticed the silver hinges on some of your doors in the photos. This might be a silly question but have you asked D not to paint over them but to paint around them? Do you mind telling me what type of hinge you have there and what it is made of or is it just stanard? The reason I ask is because we went to this new display home the other week and saw some silver hinges where the painters had painted around the hinges and it was a nice look and just gave that extra finishing touch! I know I am so anal...but blame it on my DH.... he is the one who picked it up and we have asked our builder to do that too! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 93Jun 27, 2012 4:21 pm LynneY Me again, EKS - forgot to ask. I noticed the silver hinges on some of your doors in the photos. Very observant Linh, when we were doing our PCI our independent inspector noticed that the hinges had been painted but not very well and he said either paint them properly or don't paint them at all - the SS piped up and said "we always ask the clients what they want" ... such a liar as he hadn't spoken to us for the whole 6 months of the build - we wouldn't have noticed but in hindsight maybe they would have been better left unpainted anyway they painted them properly for handover ... amazing how much detail there is in building eh??? Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 94Jun 29, 2012 9:54 pm Hey McLaren, yeah I have seen a few hinges that have been painted and some look really bad and just didn't look very neat. I guess if they are painted neatly then it wouldn't be so much of a problem that is why DH and I have requested the hinges not be painted. I am glad that Dechellis painted the hinges properly for you though! There is so much detail in building and we are certainly trying to cover all bases before we even build but I am well aware that with so much to consider and take into account we will bound to forget something! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 95Jun 30, 2012 1:37 pm We didn't get asked what we wanted to do about painting the hinges, I will email SS and tell him to leave them silver. Thanks for pointing that out, LynneY, I probably wouldn't have noticed and then been disappointed. Tiles and plumbing being done this week, the big bath has gone in and looks much better. Couldn't get good pics as it was being worked on yesterday but hopefully more next week. Loving our tile colours, though, the porcelain beige is smooth and sophisticated and the chocolate brown looks good enough to eat! Checked out splashback colours and have decided on chocolate, continuing the theme and it seems to look ok with the normal glass, no need for the superclear (and save the $). Bank account has a bit of a hole in it at the moment! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 96Jun 30, 2012 3:59 pm Your joinery looks great EKS, I love the little cupboards on the front of your island! A chocolate coloured splashback will look great against your white kitchen. Looking forward to seeing your tiling pics! I wouldn't have seen your message except I just logged on today to show a friend here the build. I don't have pics as they are all on my phone which doesn't work over here, or on my husband's phone, but here is a summary of the progress: New bath got installed and looks great, very glad we changed our minds! It's really high off the ground (about 600mm) but it's worth it to have it against the window. If we need a step we'll find one at Ikea or something... Tiling all in and grouted. Fullly rectified looks amazing! And a word of advice to others - don't buy the blurb from the tile shop that the tiler demands an extra $20/m2 to lay rectified tiles - they don't get the money even though we get charged for it!! Hmmmm Benchtops in (very happy with our choices - Macchiato in the kitchen and chrystal chalk in the bathroom and ensuite). (this is where I left for the US, so I haven't seen any of the rest!) Sinks, toilets, shower heads, taps, all installed. Left to go (from my memory!) is splashback, painting, final electrical, window fittings.... Not much!! But apparently painting takes 3 weeks. I have confirmed with the builders that they will leave all our hinges and door latches unpainted, so they stay chrome and shiny! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 99Jul 24, 2012 8:38 pm Hi EKS- that is great news. I (and I am sure others on this forum too) can't wait to see the photos of your place coming together. Well, it sounds like it is almost complete. You lucky duck being over in the US - I assume for business not pleasure but I am sure you could fit in a bit of retail therapy. You should buy yourself a housewarming gift as well! As I have previously posted, we have signed up with Dech homes. We have received the 1st issue plans and all seemed quite good we have been quite happy. We changed a few minor items but also added in a large window in the lounge and cut back the alfresco (just a tad) to increase the size of the main bedroom. A few other things too but I think I posted it on Monaco Build's thread! Hope to see some photos soon! Have fun in the US. Look forward to some more updates. I bet you can't wait to finally move in once everything is done x Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 100Aug 16, 2012 11:13 pm HANDOVER BOOKED IN!!! See what happens when you don't check in for a while?!? We have Pre-Completion Inspection booked for 30 August and handover on 6 September. We have a meeting with the builders tomorrow to start listing all the little things to fix up, and hoping that they get moving on those soon so that we don't have any delays! It seems like it's nearly ready. Hopefully tomorrow when we go to visit the kitchen splashback and mirrors will be in, but maybe the weather has put them all off! In the meantime, here are some pics of the tiling. This is the shower in the main bathroom (how big is the shower!?!) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The HUGE bath in the same room (we chose the chocolate as a feature wall but most of the room is the beige porcelain) Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite is the same colours but scaled down in size. Benchtop (hard to see) is essastone crystal salt. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Don't have any pics of the kitchen bench as it's all covered in bubble wrap, but it looks great. If splashback is in tomorrow will post more pics then. Still to be completed is the final electrical, window screens, air conditioning, built in wardrobes, not much else. Meanwhile, we've done the stormwater drains around the house which was good timing for all the rain! Only shame is that it's not going into our rainwater tank yet, but I'm sure there'll be more rain before long. go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110592 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11039 |
