Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 48Apr 19, 2012 10:41 pm Looking fantastic EKS!! You must be very excited now that you are actually seeing some progress. We are building the wild orchid as well (with only minor changes). Have our final selections appt with Dechellis tomorrow, so hopefully that goes well....... ORCHID Final selections meeting: 20 April 2012 Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 49Apr 20, 2012 9:15 am WOW EKS everything is looking great so far!! Those bricks are really well suited to the environment I think. They look very natural and tie in with the look of the beautiful block. Banks are strange creatures, you wonder how they justify some of the decisions being made but they never seem to be able to give you a straight answer. Did you get the report from the banks building inspector? All good I hope? Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 50Apr 22, 2012 9:46 pm We have a roof!!! LOVE IT Our aim was to get it under cover before the weather changed for Winter, looks like timing was spot on. I really like how the colours of the bricks and roof work together, and the whole thing blends into the scenery without disappearing or getting camouflaged. It's really looking like a proper house now - apparently next week (well, after we pay the next bill, probably!) they'll start on the internal stuff and it will very shortly be locked up! I'll miss being able to visit on the weekends and hang out inside, checking it all out. Will have to make sure I get one visit a week where there's someone there, so I can get in. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Building inspector - so far so good. Picked up a few things we didn't, like some roof trusses not being properly secured to wall frames, and other technical details we had no idea about. There is an area at the front of the house where some of the bricks are damaged (I looked today and couldn't see the spot, but it looks pretty obvious in his photos), so we'll have to see what can be done about that. It's peace of mind at the moment as we had some concerns after seeing the carpenters at work and just wanted to make sure it was done correctly before everything got covered up by ceilings, walls etc. It's not required by the bank, we decided to do it ourselves... We'll be getting the inspector back at some stage, not sure exactly when, but definitely at PCI. Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 51Apr 22, 2012 9:51 pm ORCHID - nearly forgot to ask - how did your selections meeting go? Were you able to get everything you wanted? Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 52Apr 22, 2012 10:02 pm You bricks look wonderful in that setting EKS. You should be very happy. We are thinking of getting an inspector throught the build as well - probably safer..... Our selections on Friday went really well, and we were fortunate to get everything we were after. We had Emma and she was fantastic Only 5 more weeks until our build starts ORCHID Final selections meeting: 20 April 2012 Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 53Apr 22, 2012 10:45 pm Hi there, I've just come across your thread. Your plans look fantastic. You must be soooo excited seeing it go up. We are also building in Mt Barker. In Bluestone Estate. I'll be sure to watch your progress now that I've found your thread. Happy building My thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=55859 First time build = excellent. Second time build = frustrating. 23/4/12 Block Cut Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 54Apr 23, 2012 10:51 am It's looking goregous ... love those triple windows by the entry ... good pick up by the inspector!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 55Apr 23, 2012 11:25 am Sounds like an Inspector is really worth it. Think we should do the same. Your house is looking fabulous! Moving along so quickly. Question: How long after your start date was the first progress claim made?? Land Settled 08/11/11 Council Approval 23/12/11 Final Selections 20/01/12 Start Date 18/07/12 Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 56Apr 23, 2012 9:22 pm Orchid, glad to hear your selections went well. Looking forward to following your build! Where are you building again? Have you posted your plans on a thread yet? I'd love to see what you've changed... Welcome to the thread, Kyli093, good luck with your build. We can see a bit of the Bluestone estate from our land, at first it looked a lot like a runway (the Boulevard?) before all the houses got built. Took a bit of scoping before we worked out what it was! I've just checked out your thread, love the plans! Hope they start soon, sounds like you've had a few unnecessary delays. Don't feel too alone, though - we bought our land nearly 5 years ago, and had all kinds of dramas. That's why we're so stoked it's all happening now! Stage#2, I think it took about a week! maybe a bit longer... our contract start date was 7th March, and the slab was poured the day before that, so there was work going on for about 2 weeks before our "official" start date (site prep, footings, etc). But as all of that work was done by contractors I think they wanted the payment going through fast. Has anything happened on your block yet? We have had a bit of a flood in all the trenching dug for our electricity connection. (We're responsible for getting power from the road to the house, a huge job, and $$). After last night's rain the trench is full of water (and the low point is right next to the house). Hope it drains away soon...DH is not happy. Electrician has started laying wires inside the house today! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 58May 04, 2012 9:53 am Been busy trenching (well, helping DH trenching while looking after little ones), but in the meantime electrician has laid wires, A&L have fixed scratches on frames and they are getting ready for internal fix. Just heard that kitchen booked fir 16 May, as soon as front door goes in and house locked up. Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 59May 04, 2012 9:57 am That's exciting when the kitchen goes in ... I squealed (much to DH's disgust ) For info on our build: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43093 Built the McLaren by Dechellis - slab down 22 Feb - handover 30 Aug 2011 - and gardens finished 9 Dec 2012!! Re: Building with Dechellis in Mt Barker 60May 14, 2012 9:03 pm Insulation has gone in, the house is now pink! Amazing how quiet it all is, glad we went for the thickest insulation we could (we want the house to be as thermal efficient as possible). Will be lovely compared to the paper thin walls we currently have to put up with. Still going with the electrical trench, DH has worked incredibly hard on it all, I can't take any credit really apart from two days assistance. Will be good when it's over, I don't think we realised what a big job it is. Making the most of the freedom of going in to the house now as soon it will all be locked up! Kitchen on track for next week! Got the rangehood delivered to Sampina for getting into the overhead cupboards... go upvc window frames ensure insulation under colorbond. not just sarking, lighter color roof also not sure if you have seen this viewtopic.php?t=5823 last couple of pages… 4 110572 Even if it's not being sub-divided and you want to keep it as Torrens title, you will still need to talk to a town planner or Council themselves, to see if they will allow… 1 11035 |
