Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 19, 2008 11:16 pm Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anyone has seen any display homes or house designs in Melbourne that would suite a 20m wide block. I need to find a double fronted home that would make use of the width of my block. Would greatly appreaciate your advice. Thank you Re: Builders with home designs to suite block 20 m wide by 32m l 2Feb 19, 2008 11:34 pm Try all of them. Re: Builders with home designs to suite block 20 m wide by 32m l 3Feb 20, 2008 12:21 am ![]() Try all of them. Not really most of them are designed for narrower blocks because of the "standard" that developers have. Tipping that cutajarp wants to make full use of the width to maximise depth for say backyard (?)....the H3nl#y site max's out at 18 metres as an example. How 'bout a 18 metre wide design with a wider garage so that you don't get the dead space when looking from the street. Mines a 19 m wide block and I did that to get a 9 metre wide garage, but with a standard double door so that it was a bit more subtle. The extra space is a godsend! mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Builders with home designs to suite block 20 m wide by 32m l 4Feb 20, 2008 8:56 am I've seen a few very nice wide houses from Huxley Homes and Clarendon.
Triple garage also could work. After 4 years - we're in! We added 2.5metres to the width of our place just be extending the garage. So I'd say there is no point sacrificing the house you want, just because it's only got a 17m front. Extending a garage is pretty cheap in the overall scheme of things.
Also, we weren't extending quite enough to make it a 3 car garage, so we are actually adding a window to the front of the garage and leaving the garage door offset to the side as per the original design. That may not make sense... here are the mock ups i did. It's amazing how useful that area is for storage/workshop etc. mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: Builders with home designs to suite block 20 m wide by 32m l 8Feb 22, 2008 12:30 pm When you have an unusual block size/shape, it's best to go through an achitect and design something suitable. Then build with a small builder.
Otherwise you will end up with a house that you won't be happy with.
