Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Urgent kitchen help! 22Jan 16, 2012 2:24 pm If I could put my 2c in. We put our sink in the middle of the island and I so regret it. I wish I had put it down one end so I have a large space of clear bench for food prep. This mistake has been really disappointing as I was so looking forward to having a fab kitchen. I'm taking it in my stride however I'm all for large areas of bench to work on:) Handover February 2011 Happy with our home Re: Urgent kitchen help! 23Jan 16, 2012 2:27 pm hey, rr!! how are you?? nice to hear from you (sad comment, but great to see you still lurk on here. How's the new house (other than the kitchen?) Our last house had a galley style kitchen with sink in the island bench...I pushed the sink as far as practical to one end ( still had a little room either side for stacking dishes-because even with a dishwasher there are dishes which NEED handwashing!)-even arguing with the builder's consultant at the time. I kept it on the island because the view was towards the back of the house past an open living/dining/family room. Re: Urgent kitchen help! 26Jan 16, 2012 2:32 pm Sure is- 3m of CLEAR benchtop! Oh it is so good! I also find it's good to be able to put the dirty spoons, knives, etc straight in to the sink. We have a join in the middle of the bb so having the sink there means you don't notice it at all. It's worth considering all options though before deciding. Re: Urgent kitchen help! 31Jan 16, 2012 3:41 pm Sorry Kiwi - quite right, brown - in that longer shot it looks grey on my screen but I can see it's brown in the closer ones Anyway, love those cupboards! 5.5m Terrace House - Lightsview (Northgate SA) Moved in!! - 22 February 2013 /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53455 Re: Urgent kitchen help! 33Jan 16, 2012 8:19 pm mrsrusty Hi ORG, I really like the style of kitchen you are explaining it sounds very similar to the ones I've seen on an interior decorator's website http://www.beautifulhome.net.au/gallery.html have a look through the gallery to look at the kitchens. As you can see the the cooktop and sinks are against the wall and the island bench is a huge workspace! Are you having caesarstone or something similar? Have they told you, you will have a join as its over 3m? If you are having laminex think will be fine, if a join bothers you of course! kiwi your kitchen is lovely! Do you have power points on your island bench - that might be something else to consider ORG. Good luck! Thanks for reminding me to confirm this!!! We originally had a 3mtr bench, but I asked to extend it so I could have the same 300mm overhand on the end of the bench too (purely for a "having a cuppa" with friends has always ended up with us sitting at the bench and I dont want to sit alongside them, I want to almost be opposite them! Hope that makes sense! Anyway, we're 99% sure the builder said that they have very recently bought out a limited choice of the most popular colours in 3.3-3.5mtr lengths, as we don't want a join! To everyone else THANKYOU!!!! I hate all this second guessing I seem to be doing! Renos have been fine to pick something new here or there, or a room, but to design a house and choose fittings, fixtures and colours etc is leaving me nervous!!! Re: Urgent kitchen help! 34Jan 17, 2012 7:29 am Thank you @. Tried to play with the facade models but the exact colour is not matching up. 2 3271 Render your bathroom walls, two opinions versus the one, makes you wonder. 3 6064 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16288 |
