Browse Forums Building A New House Re: DestinationTranmere 21Jan 13, 2012 10:54 pm Ahh.. I have the architect version (about $170 - and like you there is now a newer version) - but had a lot of problems drawing my plans as it is split level, and could never get the stairs to marry up properly. Blog: http://matt-and-jo.blogspot.com.au/ Purchased Block: August 2011, Block Settled: Dec, 2011 Contract Signed: 28/6/12, Site Works Started: 9/11/12 Re: DestinationTranmere 22Jan 13, 2012 11:37 pm In my version you can set the floor level of each room (double click in a blank area of the room and select the Structure tab). Then in the stair dialogue you can turn off automatic and play with them to get them right. If your version has the same dialogues let me know and I'll PM some more info if you think it might help. Re: DestinationTranmere 23Jan 14, 2012 8:20 am DT- the "wall" planfan suggested shouldn't impact on the view at all.....it only needs to be wide enough on each side to block the vanity area-although I'd still put a cavity slider myself for the "noise" factor! I have changed the cavity door and added the wall at the bedroom end of the family room. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I am assuming we are talking about adding a bit of wall where the RED box is in this pic. I'm not keen on doing that because I think doing so closes in the entry to the family and the wall would block the view as you enter, you would have to walk foward along "the hall" before you would see it. What am I not getting? Re: DestinationTranmere 25Jan 14, 2012 7:53 pm Just bringing the plans onto this page so I don't have to scroll back! DestinationTranmere Sorry I am still not getting it? Will be interested to hear if anyone has comments on your design....it looks like it ticks all the boxes!! (& am pleased on not being able to see into the powder room from the family room! Didn't mean to kick off such a discussion last time!!) Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: DestinationTranmere 30Feb 16, 2012 9:27 pm Thanks Dee, I suspect the little nook at the back of the family room may get sacrificed when the quotes come in but I’m hoping that even though it creates extra floor area, it actually reduces external cladding area. Re: DestinationTranmere 31Feb 16, 2012 9:29 pm Kicking off discussions is what it is all about isn't it Eiffel, I really appreciate the feedback and input! Re: DestinationTranmere 32Feb 16, 2012 9:38 pm DestinationTranmere Kicking off discussions is what it is all about isn't it Eiffel, I really appreciate the feedback and input! That is true!! The only thing with your plan that doesn't sit well with me is the position of the toilet/powder room opposite the deck/off the hall - but I don't know what else you could do....... Oh, and is that a study nook in the bedroom next to the family bathroom? It looks like it should be the robe space, but you already have that on the other wall...... Our building thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=51657 Re: DestinationTranmere 33Feb 16, 2012 9:50 pm I did have the toilet/powder up near the laundry but moving it down helped get the deck a bit wider and meant you didn't go half way upstairs to get there. Always a compromise I guess but one we are happy with. In respect to the study nook question, I'm guessing you are talking about the extra space in the back bedroom? That will be our guest bedroom and my thought was it would be nice to have a bit of extra room in there for a small lounge (or for some future owner, a desk as you say). I've thought about putting the robe there and pushing the loo/powder/bath along to make the 'iNook' bigger but it is a pretty decent space as it is. What do other people think? Any better way to configure the kids end? Always a compromise I guess but one we are happy with. And I think that's the key.....if you can work it through and imagine how it will work when you live there and you are still happy with it then great!! Any better way to configure the kids end? Yes, that was the area I was thinking about it........my only thought would be to move the robe and as you say, make the iNook area bigger - perhaps you could put storage cupboards on to that wall on the iNook.......actually, do you have enough storage? Although, I don't think you can ever have enough storage...... YAY!!!! I've updated the design page on the blog with the plans and a few thoughts. Here are the plans and a few images! Critical feedback most appreciated! Pick it to bits people!! (but maybe read the design page first so you know where I am coming from if you can be bothered!)
