Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 12, 2012 3:02 pm Hi, We have to build higher up off the ground due to 1 in 100year flood zone. They have just brought in all the fill. It looks REALLY high up off the ground. I cant imagine what the finished product is going to look like. Will the house have a 'marooned on an island' look? I am worried it wont have a finished look and that we will have to 'cover up' the soil mound? Never mind driving 'up' into the garage. Does anyone have any photos or is there someone with a blog who had same situation who can set my mind at ease? Thanks in advance. Re: Flood zone / AHD levels/ it looks weird 3Jan 12, 2012 3:10 pm I took a few, but does not really come out clear enough. I really just want to see some photos of some finished places built up off the ground by 30-50cm...(I shall endeavour to get better photo) Re: Flood zone / AHD levels/ it looks weird 4Jan 12, 2012 6:09 pm i know what you mean. it prob will look a bit 'marooned' just to begin with while there is all sand there, but i have seen houses that are built up like that and once they have all the grass around them it looks heaps better. also i have seen one place that has put trees/bushes [tallish ones] just at the base of the 'mound' and it made a big difference to the look. you couldnt really tell that the house was built up that much. Re: Flood zone / AHD levels/ it looks weird 5Jan 12, 2012 8:56 pm Thanks. Called the site supervisor who went to have a look. Found out they built up to FINISHED floor level. How lucky that I questioned it. They are going to fix it tomorrow. Wonder how far they would have progressed before they found out. A bit scarey.... However, would still love to see any photos or hear of any blogs where others are in same situation of a 'built up' house. Yes it had a house on it. But Melbourne water only wanted something the original size of the existing house. We managed to fit a 45sq house on. 10 33655 I had an old shower unit that broke on me and when I took it off, there were only 2 water pipes, instead of the normal 2 water pipes and a shower head pipe.
