Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 12, 2012 2:44 pm HI, Just wondering if anyone who knows about solar panel placement could help with some advice. We had on our plans a solar boosted hot water system that was to face north on the front of the house as we have a north facing house. The builder then put the two solar panels on the west of the house - I gather as it is closer to the hot water tank there. They didn't tell us but when we asked, said the panels would not fit on the front of the house and they had rung up the company who make the system and were told they could place it there. Our main concern is that we have a large double story house being built on the west side and it does shade our house a bit. Every other house in our development has their panels facing north. The double story next to us has theirs on the east as there are trees shading to their west. Is this anything to worry about? will the solar powered generated still be significant? The company has told us that the builder can put the panels to the west if they are 70 degrees or less to the north or they need to add an extra panel. Any advice would be appreciated Heytherek Re: Builder changing solar panel placement 2Jan 12, 2012 10:36 pm Mounting the panels facing west will reduce the efficiency by about 14%. If you look at the following link you will find more information about how to work out if panels are going to be shaded and orientation of solar panels. http://www.anewhouse.com.au/?cat=97&paged=2 The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
