Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 11, 2012 2:05 pm Hi guys, Just hoping someone can give me some info on how it worked with your final payment. We were informed yesterday that our walkthrough is booked in for January 25 and our file is being consolidated for our final invoice to be issued. Question is we don't want to hand over the final payment until we get the keys to the house, is this the wrong thing to expect or is it expected we just pay the invoice and then wait for them to find fix any defects we find during the walkthrough? This is a concern as pofficially we have yet to have any walkthrough of our house and this will be the first time there with the supervisor and ourselves so we may find things he has not considered to be an issue. My husband has informed him that he wants the painters to do another attempt as cutting in as this is no where near straight and a few other minor issues. Any help would be great. If you do a search for wild orchid you will see that she hung onto her cheque and it was amazing what was done in a week! On the other hand, we handed our cheque over and it has taken several months to get things fixed that should have been fixed pre handover. They put pressure on you to hand the money over but if you are not happy it is the only leverage you have - once they have the money they lose interest and everything gets put onto the 3 month maintenance list. Great news that you will have an inspector there as well - ours found 90 faults and we found over 25! Good luck!! Re: Walkthrough and Final Payment 3Jan 11, 2012 4:06 pm Hi You don't pay until you get the keys. The Walk through or PCI is your chance to identify any defects which the builder 'should' fix over the following week or two. We def plan on holding onto the payment until we get the keys know and we will let them know this prior so ipefully they can fix some issues we have already raised with them. Will also let them know I have te cheque and am ready to hand over a soon as we are happy with the house.
