Browse Forums Building A New House caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 221Sep 10, 2012 6:29 pm Oh my goodness. I can't believe hand over is only a couple of days away!! Went down to Rocko council to sort out bins, free plants [apparently they stopped the 2 free native plants per new home back in June.... I was very disappointed to hear this ], change of address and my "reflectorised" house number. I also asked about tip passes and the girl looked at me as if to say, "YOU CAN'T GET TIP PASSES BEFORE YOU JOIN THE 'HOOD BIATCH!", but then her expression changed and she asked me if I needed them before I move in, to which I said no. She the. Informed me that they will come with the new adjusted rates notice, once I've moved in. I'm thinking I should pay the other half of my rates now, so that the "adjusted rates notice" isn't too much of a shock when it arrives. I'm expecting it to be the same amount as my last one (which would make my total rates about $1300-$1400pa. Yuck!) After visiting the council, I went to my house and put the house numbers on my mail box. I already had a mailbox and it's already battered and worn, so I figured I'd save the "nice" silver house numbers for the actual house, and the free, **** house numbers can go on the free, weather beaten mailbox. I don't know if you'll be able to see them without a torch/headlights.... But that's why I'm getting the silver ones for the house.... Oh, and probably for the rear entrance too.... So I know which garage is mine! Haha! The builder looks to have pretty well fixed the render, except where the hand mark is by my window. Part of me wants to leave it there, as it adds "character" and probably looks better than where they've patched the other parts of the render. Another part of me is disappointed that the person who did the render, really doesn't take as much pride in their work as I do! I hope they're not the same person as the plasterer, 'cause they had a bit of work to do too. Actually, I came on here to tell you how damn excited I am to be moving into my house next Monday!!!! I might finally get to meet one of my new neighbours (Vans) and I am really looking forward to having my OWN space back!!! And it's MINE!! Yayauayay! I've booked the removalists for the morning, I've booked Internet/phone for the next morning. I'm changing providers after being with Telstra all my life..... Which makes me a bit sad, 'cause I really wanted Telstra to match the deal and I would've stayed with them, no question. But, they're just not that interested in keeping me loyal, so, I'm off to Westnet (which is iiNet)! Optus aren't in the area yet, so they didn't even get a chance. Good thing iiNet uses Telstra's lines. I've also changed most of my mailing addresses. I want to get two new door mats (back and front) for handover day, but not sure where to get the one for the front door. I want a really effective one, or one that looks pretty. Pretty and effective would work for me too!! Anyway, I'm off to start my front landscape design, so that I can be well prepared like Ally! I have ideas, just haven't put them on paper yet Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 222Sep 10, 2012 9:29 pm So exciting! I am impressed at your organisation, Caz, bravo! I can't believe it is so close for you! Soon they will give you KEYS, omg! Snooty council girl but good to hear it's all sorted. Hehehe, I giggled at the thought of her saying BIATCH and you could be all, OH NO YOU DIDN'T rates = money suck I like shiny house numbers nothing worse than driving around at night driving to find a damn house with hidden numbers Wooooo for having your own space! It's amazing, you don't have to wear pants! That's the most awesome part! I am shocked to find someone who likes Telstra but if they were good to you, then that's awesome I'd LOVE to go with Optus but they're not in our area either yet. We're going with Westnet too they are awesome! We call, we talk to someone within a few minutes AND they usually always live nearby, which is hilarious! The guy who we first spoke to when signing up lived ten minutes away! Doormats = Bunnings. Ours is plain and simple but does a good job... which is important, considering all the sand in these new estates!! Haha you're already well prepared, Caz! Look at all you have already organised Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 223Sep 12, 2012 10:00 am I cannot wait for you to have those keys in your hand! Move in monday! Whoop whoop! i am so excited and it isnt my house! you will love living across from the park...sitting out front, a drink or two watching the families playing kick. It is so mice. And all the trucks gone! How is your landscape design going? Have you mat the landscaper yet? I hope he was helpful...hopefully my complaint kicked him into gear! he did a great job of putting my design and plants in reality. I love my front yard! Door mats...keep an eye on scoopons or deals as they have them up regularly. One just had some...i was going to buy but just ordered new pillows so need to save! we are with telstra at moment. They stuffed us around so much in beginning. Being in a black spot we had limited choice. Dh found another provider, using telstra lines but telstra refused to release us even though they Hadnt got our internet up on promised time. When we said we are leaving it was on in an hour. Funny that! Hopefully we get some new towers up when our contract runs out. But we have no problems with them. Goodluck with handover and send a wave my way! caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 224Sep 17, 2012 11:03 pm The Vans I cannot wait for you to have those keys in your hand! Move in monday! Door mats...keep an eye on scoopons or deals as they have them up regularly. One just had some...i was going to buy but just ordered new pillows so need to save! Thanks for the tip on Scoopons.... I currently get emails for Cudo, so will look into Scoopons as well. I ended up getting a couple of door mats from Bunnings, they had a huge range! I got a call from the fencing guy today, and not long after I got a call from the landscaping guy! Is his name John Walker??? Or did I mis-hear him? I have an idea of what I want out the front and down the sides.... Just not sure about the back, so I should be pretty ready for him when he comes on Thursday for the front landscaping. I'm just not sure if they do the verge as well as in front of my house, or just one or the other.... Guess I'll find out soon enough. I am officially in my new home!!! And it's raining on my Colorbond roof and I LOVE IT!!! It's so cool! My theatre is tiny.... Which makes it cosy. I quite like it already Sooooo many boxes to unpack.... But for now, it's TV time (I need a break!) Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 225Sep 18, 2012 12:27 am Yaaayyyyy! Congrats on keys, Caz! How exciting for you to finally be in your beautiful home don't forget move in pics for us H1 pic piggies! You are in! How exciting!!! Landscaping guy is called paul...unless they are going with someone else. I hope they are! Although they did put our plants in where i asked. I am sure you get your verge done as well. We did so you should...just because it is a step down shouldnt stop you getting the verge done! How are you going with millipedes? We have them everywhere! In places you dont want to know. Awful buggersthey are! So what do you have to do to your house? I cant remember what you had included with the build. I am so glad we have a kitchen to paint (wall space is very small) and backyard to do and we are done! But backyard is a huge job! This is when i realise how good a cottage block would be! And the backyard is where we dont know what we want and cant agree! congrats on keys and hopefully i get to meet you soon! i promise i am not a stalker...although i am a little desparate for pics! Please! caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 228Sep 19, 2012 9:34 am Awww Vans! I know I'm a bit slow with the pics, I don't have the Internet connected yet, so it probably won't be until next week! The Telstra person is coming on Friday, then my phone/net company have to do their thing. I hope you're right about the verge. I have some spare pavers, I hope they can use them for the path to the road. I'm already a bit daunted by the fact I'll have a garden. I've been living in units and apartments for the past 6/7 years, so I am scared that I won't know what to do with the garden. One of the great things about the cottage block is that I hopefully won't have to be in the garden every weekend! Well, once it's been established for a while anyway. You know, I don't mind being woken up by the tradies on site next door, I just wish they'd listen to classical music in the morning!! I don't like waking up, feeling like I'm in a nightclub at 7am. Oh, well. I'll be back at work next week, so probably won't notice it as much then Oh, and yes! I hope to meet you soon too caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 229Sep 26, 2012 11:13 pm I'm still waiting (impatiently!) for my phone/Internet connection. Westnet are so frickin' annoying!!! Why wait until AFTER Telstra comes out (a week later) before sending the hardware out?! I would be connected by now if I'd just gone with Telstra.... I even have a bill already!!!!! A'holes Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 230Sep 26, 2012 11:30 pm Hey Caz, we had to wait a week after Telstra too.... Basically once Telstra comes out, they let Westnet know its all good and then Westnet schedule everything to go ahead a few days later. However, they can't do that scheduling for your Internet to go live until Telstra sends that report - and Telstra took five days to let them to know in our case! All telecommunication companies are as bad as each other, I think I hope it's on soon for you!! caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 231Sep 26, 2012 11:49 pm Ouch.. Hate Telstra. Is the first bill for a new build really big? We bought a brand new house a couple of years ago and got a bill for 450ish for the initial connection. Was very unexpected at the time. Thankfully we are not utilizing Telstra services at all in our build, they can keep their crappy copper and excessive monthly line rentals!!! Yay for fibre. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. They have to wait for Telstra as they rent the line's from them. All put of the building "wait awhile" but at least you always get to speak to a local with Westnet (they don't outsource overseas) Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 233Sep 29, 2012 1:35 pm donna61 ...at least you always get to speak to a local with Westnet (they don't outsource overseas) Damn straight! Last time I called up, I spoke to a guy who lived just north of the river. He came to turn on our connection the next day on his way down to his son's soccer game the next day caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 234Sep 30, 2012 1:25 am Well, I wait impatiently for the hardware..... Hang on a sec, does that mean that after I finally receive my hardware, I then have to wait for someone from Westnet to come and flick a switch somewhere so that I can use my Internet? I really hope not.... I thought it was just Telstra I had to wait for, for the phone line. Once I have that hardware, I'm hoping I can just set up and go! caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 235Sep 30, 2012 11:01 am Pretty sure the millipedes love sand, which is probably why you guys in the newer estates are getting them real bad. When we lived NOR there was heaps of vacant blocks around us and we had them so bad they'd always be coming in the house at night - they're also attracted to the light which means they come in at night. We get them here also but not as bad - DF uses a product called 'Coopex' - you buy it from bunnings in a little yellow packet in the insecticide section. It's about $12 and you need to mix the powder with water in a pressure sprayer (which u can get for about $10 and is also good for weed spraying etc). Spray it on the paving around the house - mainly areas near door entry's etc and problem solved. It is residual so don't spray on door frames/window frames etc as you will see the residual white marks, especially if theyre dark but you can wipe it off easily if you overspray. Haven't had a millipede inside for a very long time. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. I woke up this morning with one on the wall above my head! Needless to say my dustbuster is my best friends, but i will definately be giving this a go! Time line on P1. caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 237Sep 30, 2012 12:27 pm It 100% works.. You will get a few dead ones around the front door etc but they won't come inside. Generally they won't go anywhere near the stuff. And DF says if you try it, use one of the weaker ratios on the packet - about 4 litres water to the packet is right. You can also spray it under the eaves and keep spiders and cobwebs away for a long time. We have about a 4 metre high raking ceiling in our alfresco and it's a lifesaver not having mass cobwebs building up up there. Building the Riva by Dale Alcock Homes. Were you waiting for Westnet to send you a modem? Probably better to go buy yourself a good one... We have a Netgear DGND3300 and it's awesome. Basically, we had Telstra come out to do the actual physical connection and connect you up at your closest exchange (in our case, SPH already dug the trench so the line was already connected to the house, just no dial tone cos no home phone account). Then they confirm with Westnet (after taking their sweet time) that it's all done and connected, and Westnet activate it all on their end. Our home phone was active a few days before the broadband was. Hope that helps? And WOOO on the millipede killer! I am all for that! Thanks Em! I don't even know how they are getting into the house, but I found them on our curtain the other day and my darn lazy cats are too happy enjoying the sunny floorboards to chase/eat them. Lazy cats! Jen, if your cats are good millipede hunters, I would like to hire them please. Re: caz_770 in Baldivis - Handover Booked! 240Sep 30, 2012 1:27 pm Hahah. They don't eat the millipedes but I have seen Darla with a gecko hanging out her mouth. Gross cat won't eat fresh chicken but will eat geckos.
