Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 04, 2012 7:43 pm Me and my partner signed up to build our Lindeman 28 with M*tric*n in May 2011. Our brand new estate was destined to be finished September 2011. They werent too far off track with the settlement of our land happening on the 4th of November. Our site start happened on the 21st of December with site scrape happening and temp fence been erected. Not 100% sure why they bothered making a start then but any progress is progress. I started a blog a while back but I decided to make a thread here so that I can recieve advice throughout the build on issues we have. Here is how our block currently sits: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Im pretty sure they get moving again the 9th of January so bring on 2012 http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 2Jan 08, 2012 12:35 am Hi, I am following your blog atm. Your house will look great when finished. hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 3Jan 08, 2012 9:40 am Hi Trewman, Good luck with your build, your house plans look great. Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 4Jan 08, 2012 1:44 pm I love this floorplan Its bigger than what we could build, but the floorplan we are going with resembles the kitchen/meals/living/alfresco set up. My parents were going to buy the display of the Linderman, but it was already under contract so they're putting an offer on the Lancaster which is also nice. Look forward to following you build! Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 6Jan 08, 2012 6:58 pm Thanks guys tomorrow is the big day they get stuck into it we cant wait We love how open it is its exactly what we are after! Regarding the garage access we had a big think about it and the reasons we didnt want to put one in: - Didnt want to wreck our feature wall by putting a door there - We want to use our nice front door every time we enter our home - We want to use the space for storage in the garage where a door would be We thought very long and hard about this trust me! http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 7Jan 09, 2012 6:21 am You Know what? what really counts when building a home is having enough open space & or living areas as well as enough storage. From what I can see in your plans, even if you change your mind & want inetrnal access from the garage in say 5 or 10 yrs time, you can still do it, but in the scheme of things, in my opinion, storage is very very important, I also love your outdoor room. Just wondering, have you thought about putting in a storage cupboard in the laundry? Just wondering, have you thought about putting in a storage cupboard in the laundry? It is very do-able putting a door in later if we want to which is another reason why we are going without now. There are a lot of builders in my family so any later mods will never be a problem. Ive infact got my uncle doing our splash back, wardrobe shelving etc. Ive also got a friend who is a sparky doing our out door lighting, pendant lights, further tv points, cat 5 points etc. With the laundry we are going to see how we go as is then if we need more storage my uncle will put some cupboards up above the sink. We have a lot of storage under our island bench on the bar stool side, we have a 4 bedroom house at the moment and there is only 2 of us! Im also building storage into the little rectangle area in the garage too. I went down to the block before to check for any progress. They have stuck a fair few markers into the ground and 2 where our driveway will sit. No idea what these are for but the website portal for our builder has base complete scheduled to be the 23/1/12. Hopefully its done sooner! http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 9Jan 10, 2012 9:59 am Looks like things are moving right along! it wont be too much longer and at least with them starting after the break I think it will seem faster as there wont be really any delays. Cant wait to see the slab in the next few weeks. BTW: We didnt do an internal access door to the house either and at first i thought well if it wasnt on the plans maybe we cant have it as it might be a weight baring wall- found out much later we could have added it. After seeing the eaves on our house we will be able to walk out the front of the garage and still be covered or the back door of the garage into the laundry and still be covered-so we essentially saved money as it really isnt needed. Yeh definitly come down and have a look. We have spied on your place! I do every time I drive to our block along westernport hwy. Yeh we shouldnt get wet walking from the garage either. Im right into motocross so I need the garage space for bikes so a door just wouldnt work for us. http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 11Jan 12, 2012 3:56 pm Power box is in as of yesterday. Did you try and figure out what all the pipes are for? hubby, kids and me all waiting for the Amberlea Site Cut 27 September 2011 https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46637 http://www.dscml.com/ Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 15Jan 17, 2012 2:28 pm Yeah I assume the fluro yellow painted pipes are where the downpipes will be. I can make out the pipes where our island bench (sink) will be and also where the toilets will be. Can't wait for the slab hopefully it comes this week. The login for our builder says base stage complete scheduled for the 23/1 so hopefully it is true! http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 16Jan 17, 2012 4:45 pm Our site manager just called and introduced himself. Really nice guy spoke for about 10 minutes. He said our slab will be poured on the 23rd next monday. The slab was to be poured today according to m#tricon. Spoke to the guys doing our slab and they said wednesday it gets poured. Top blokes and one of them lives about 10 doors down from our estate so a nice local job for him. My brother has been giving me updates, hes been working on a few houses in the estate as he is a plumber which has been handy. I will put more pics up wednesday after the slab has been poured. Are you going with the open timber sliding doors coming out of the family room? Wondering what it would cost to change the facade and get those doors out the back? I will be building in around 5 months, are there any other hidden costs associated with building the Lindeman? Also i have heard the "waffle slabs" aren't the best, but metro guarantee it for 25 or 30 years. I guess they wouldn't be doing it if it compromised the building? By and large, language is a tool for concealing the truth Re: First Home - Lindeman 28 20Jan 26, 2012 9:08 pm Well we are pretty wrapped our slab was poured on wednesday and we couldnt be happier! We can see now exactly where our house sits and how big the garage will be etc. We have an independant builder checking it out tomorrow to give us the OK to make payment. We also made the local papers again today we should start charging peet the way its going! Great to hear of a fellow lindeman-er! We upgraded to the chateu facade because we liked the idea of having the extra bit in the master room for a chase sofa. At the rear we have chosen to have timber tri slide doors one at the back to the outdoor room and one on the side to our future pergola. From memory it was an extra 8k to have the facade we chose. The 2x tri slide timber doors were part of a promotion but Im pretty sure they are about 3k each. Regarding the slab a correctly engineered waffle slab can be much stronger than a traditional slab. The guarentee is for 25 years. I spose they wouldnt use them if met houses would be falling over everywhere.
