Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 03, 2012 6:36 pm Hey
I was wondering what sorta things you need to add to your house after hand over, before you move in, but might forget about. I've written a list of a few things (some are part of packages with some builders). Can anyone help me create a list? * Driveway * Antenna * Letterbox * Turf * Gardens * Clothesline * Aircon * Alarm system * outside decking * Flyscreens * Curtains * Aluminium security door to Entry * Fencing * House numbers * Door stops * Door mat/s * Door Bell * May need to add toilet roll holders /towel rails or hooks if builder doesn't supply WILL EDIT WHEN PEOPLE ADD IDEAS Re: What to add AFTER HANDOVER 2Jan 03, 2012 7:12 pm Some builders don't include: Door stops, toilet roll holders (and towel rails if you use that type). One thing that we had in our old house was those plastic hook things on the inside of doors for things like tea towels, aprons, oven mitts etc - that drove me nuts for the first couple of weeks until we got around to buying them! Alarm system, door bell, door mats (another annoying thing coz there is dirt and dust everywhere!) That's all I can think of. Hope it helps! I thought this was standard. Builder didn't want to do TV antenna because too many people complaint about the quality of the picture. For example, we're building with the Homebuyers Centre, and from your list, they include the driveway, blinds and flyscreens. However, the front part of the driveway that's called the crossover, between the pavement and the road, is not included, and is something we have to organise. Our front garden (and reticulation) is handled by the local shire, as is the fencing, but the back garden area is ours to do with as we please. Our flooring is also included, even though I've noticed that many opt to do their own after handover. The main two things we're going to get done to the place after handover, outside of that crossover, is installing aircon and getting a few security upgrades - including an alarm. We can live with the aircon being a day or two late, but the security upgrades have to be done beforehand. Re: What to add AFTER HANDOVER 5Jan 05, 2012 1:57 am These will also depend on whether they are included in the package with your builder: carpets/tiles/timber flooring, light fittings/light globes, internal wall paint, aluminium security door to Entry, Fencing (even if the developer includes boundary fencing, you may need to arrange a fence or gate to side access of property separately). Also wiping over/mopping everything - it's not something you need to add, but it is something that always needs doing before moving in because the builders only have to make the home habitable, not clean. Yeah, I moved into a rental where it had just been reno-ed and the first thing i had to do was get the builder dust of EVERYTHING. I didn't want that stuff on my furniture. Re: What to add AFTER HANDOVER 7Jan 05, 2012 5:47 pm I want to get a quote to seal my tiling after handover. Hate dirty grout. Apparently it pays to have them cleaned and sealed asap? Don't know who does it in my area yet. Adding built in cabinetry to laundry & wardrobes. Painting feature walls and adding pellments above windows and lighting. Outside landscaping will include decking and screens. Re: What to add AFTER HANDOVER 8Jan 05, 2012 6:14 pm dazandstace I want to get a quote to seal my tiling after handover. Hate dirty grout.
