Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jan 03, 2012 10:37 am Hi All
My husband and I are very excited to be building for the very first time. Already signed with Red Ink, they have been fabulous. We are building in Munster which is a great family orientated area close to the beach, fremantle etc.. http://s738.photobucket.com/albums/xx22/littlebabybond/Our%20New%20Dream%20Home/ Re: Red Ink Lifestyle 300 - Munster 2Jan 03, 2012 10:40 am What a great plan! Will look forward to watching your house grow! We are also building in an area we always wanted to live in but thought we could never afford.... but luck seems to be on our side in regards to this home:) Red Ink Homes are in the process of doing tests on our block and our plans are in drafting so hopefully soon we will start the prestart process Re: Red Ink Lifestyle 300 - Munster 4Jan 03, 2012 11:01 am Oh wow - that IS exciting!! Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Which flooring 7Jan 05, 2012 10:18 am Hi All, Having trouble with what flooring we will end up going with in our living areas I was thinking either bamboo flooring or porcelain tiles (lightish colour 600 x 600) Did not think it will be soo expensive but at the same time we want everything done perfect as we dont want to be doing any renovations down the road.. What are your thoughts... oh i like hardwood flooring especially the marri or blackbutt also but $$$$ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The pic attached is of the same layout of our kitchen / living area... I really love the kitchen cabinetry and colours with wooden flooring, it just looks so fresh Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Flooring :( 8Jan 05, 2012 5:54 pm Do you have pets? That makes a big difference to the kind of flooring you have...especially dogs! Something to think about. Some people also have issues with kids and flooring...tiles quite hard if they fall, especially young kids...not sure what stage you are in your life! We have chosen tiles because our dog is incredibly scared of wooden floorboards and his claws scratch them incredibly. In our old house we had the old polished Jarrah boards, looked gorgeous all polished, but a lot of work to keep them that way, and with the dog claws we gave up in the end! But then, tiles have grout to keep clean...hands and knees get very sore when using a toothbrush! When our baby girl started walking she rarely had a fall, so if we had tiles it wouldn't have been an issue with banging her head...so for us tiles are it. Some people say floorboards aren't as cold in winter...i have lived with both, haven't noticed the difference. In Summer some people say tiles are better as they are cooler...again I haven't noticed the difference! the dog does...he goes straight to the tiles now for bed (yes a very spoilt indoor dog!) but in our old house with the floorboards, he slept on his bed all the time (floors were no cooler then his bed). However, all the display homes that have the floorboards, oohlala they look lovely! and go very nice with white kitchens! It is all a personal choice. People are going to give you advantages and disadvantages for each. They will range from the ones that show dust more then others, ones that show streaks more, cooler/warmer, more care etc...at the end of the day, what do you like?! What do you like underfoot? Go with what you like! Your flooring is with you until you leave the house...so if you know you can find the money to pay for what you really like...do it...worth it! Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Flooring :( 9Jan 05, 2012 7:17 pm hi mary, we are going thru the same things. we too are having such difficulty choosing flooring im thinking i will wait until some of the flooring places have their sales and buy from them then...even if we have to store it until build is finished. and i am so panicking about making sure i choose the right roof colour to go with the bricks, and getting the window sill colours right and the gutters/fascia colours right! when does it become enjoyable. as i am also stressing about how much we will spend at prestart also. It is so very frustrating but exciting at the same time, the only down fall is after choosing your colours there is no turning back and that goes for flooring also.... Garden, who are you building with and what area Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Flooring :( 11Jan 05, 2012 8:50 pm we are also building with Redink...down in Lake Clifton [its about 1/2 way between mand/bunbury] RI are one of the few builders that build in the area.....i joke that we seem to be in a black hole, as most of the perth based builders come as far south as dawseville/bouvard [which is about 10 minutes from us]...and even if they have a sw office, dont come up as far as lake clifton . so we had fun in the beginning trying to find a builder who would build. Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Flooring :( 12Jan 05, 2012 9:07 pm Hi marybond2012 I saw on TV this morning an ad for a flooring place with wood floors (installed) on sale (included waterproofing, sealing..... and a bunch of other wood floor stuff). They were on sale for $169.90sqm. Yes! It is expensive! I just remember thinking, "I can only dream.", so if you can stretch a little bit to get those wood floors, go for it! I'm builidng my first home in Baldivis, so the flooring company is a Perth company..... Unfortunately, I can't remember who it was..... I'll see if they play the ad again tomorrow. I am constantly looking for someone to bounce ideas off for my place, as I am doing this on my own. I think it would be so much more frustrating if I was actually building with someone who wasn't interested. I feel for you Maybe if you narrow down the options to just two and he can pick one?? Good luck with your choices! Carol. Good luck with your choices! Carol. Hi Carol, Thank you for your reply... I think i might have found a great flooring company which was referred to me by a friend who built in the past and used them due to being the cheapest and they are floors by nature in south fremantle. I have already email them by plans and will hopefully receive my quote this coming monday.... I have also found a great cupboard handle website I want the handles with the diamonds hahah hopefully hubby wont care www.bauers.com.au Carol we can bounce ideas off each other and walk through this process together I am constantly researching how to get high quality for cheaper Another thing to look into is tapware.. I heard that if you want to upgrade that it is better to buy your own online as you will save thousands then going through the builder Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - Flooring :( 14Jan 07, 2012 8:41 pm marybond2012 Hi Carol, Thank you for your reply... I heard that if you want to upgrade that it is better to buy your own online as you will save thousands then going through the builder Hehehe.... I just had an evil thought maybe if you choose all diamond handles and go through it with your husband saying, "I think we should have diamond door handles on the bathroom cupboards, all the kitchen cupboards, laundry cupboards, ensuite..... What do you think?!" Maybe he'll take an interest? I love the cupboard handle website! It's got more of a selection than my builder, so I'll see if I can get a discount if the cupboards are installed without them. But I guess if I did that, I'd have to drill all the holes myself.... Hmmmm.... Have you started looking into interior paints as well? I had a look at the cost of a couple of litres of paint at Bunnings today, I was shocked! It's quite expensive! Plus you have to buy all the brushes, rollers, drop sheets, tape and the undercoat/primer! Not sure what I'm going to do as I had planned to do it myself gradually over the next 10 years!! The problem is, the open plan living areas and kitchen. I wanted to do the kitchen and bathrooms as soon as I moved in, because they are wet areas and didn't want to leave the plaster bare in those areas for too long. I have heard of Floors by Nature.... Maybe my parents used them when they built quite a few years ago. I'm not sure. It could just be because I used to live in South Freo I hope they give you a pleasantly surprising quote Thanks for the tip on the tapware.... I can't really decipher what is standard with my builder and what is an upgrade from the pre-start selection guide. I think the brochure has all of the tapware in it, not just standard. And then there are items described in the specifications that I can't find in any of the brochures or on the internet! So confusing I love researching house stuff..... But there's my dreams and there's what I can afford Re: Red Ink - Munster WA - The latest & Greatest :) 15Jan 09, 2012 6:03 pm Hi Mary, We have just received your contour survey and we are now currently waiting on the site classification report to come back. Your file will now progressed to the drafting department for working drawings. Once plans are completed your site costs, contracts and specifications will be prepared. Can anyone help me on this one as i dont want to purchase the wrong ones... Red Ink - Munster WA - LED Downlights GU10 or MR16 ???? 18Jan 10, 2012 5:28 am Hi You need to be careful with EBay LEDs - the quality and light output can be variable. My personal preference is to purchase dedicated LED fittings with an external power supply rather than MR16 or GU10. When building a new house there is no reason to limit yourself to retro-fit bulbs as you have no existing light fittings to worry about compatibility with. There are a couple of LED threads here on H1. In my opinion the best is the Brighgreen DR900, but there are about $116 each. Also hear good things about the Trend Lighting Miniled XDA13 but this was after I had already purchased my lights (I got some from http://www.electricalproducts.com.au for around $60. I purchased a test unit first and compared it with the test DR900 - I found that the light was about 95% as good and the dimming was better.
