Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 23, 2011 12:32 am Hi all, I'm revisiting our build figures again, trying to find a few pennies to pinch from somewhere. How much do you think we should budget for fencing and gates? Fence: assuming just a standard colorbond one like our neighbours, about 20m long Gate: perhaps something a little more than colorbond... but not sure quite what yet, wood / steel frame.. dunno? How much did you pay and for what? If giving prices for gates, a picture would be fab, thanks. anise Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ How much did you spend on fencing and gate? 2Dec 23, 2011 7:47 pm I only have a quote at the moment but stratco good neighbor fence (without the lattice bit) for 46m and a double car gate and a little walk through gate they have said $3900 but if I have Galv posts it will bring it to $3500. Not sure if this is a average quote as its our first one and their quote is a little hard to decipher. I'd budgeted an allowance of about $5k, so by the looks of it if we stick to that kind of fence we might actually be able to free up a bit for all our other over-spends elsewhere Is that supply only or including installation? Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ How much did you spend on fencing and gate? 4Dec 24, 2011 12:39 am I was kinda hoping that my quote was way overpriced (as its only 1 side of my block, lucky the other 2 sides are already done ) That price was supply only. I think the fence only is advertised at about $38 per lm in their brochure but I'm not sure what needs to be added to that or if its the gates that are really expensive. But they are rather heavy even done in pine. We had a jarrah pair in our last house. Needed very heavy duty bolts etc to fasten them to brick. You can also buy gate kits which give you the metal framework and you can fasten timber to the frame, these look rather nice. This time we wanted lighter gates. Were going to make our own up but ended up buying a premade pool gate for the front of the house. A good friend of mine in the city had a tubular gate made ( like the pool fencing stuff) but nice and fancy that looks lovely. Would love to have wrought iron gates made though. ( dreaming made worse because a house just near us has had some installed since exactly like the ones I wanted) Re: How much did you spend on fencing and gate? 6Dec 24, 2011 8:25 am 1.8m Colourbond Fence, Installed.. $59 per m (thats vic) 2.1m $79 installed. Railway Sleepers underneath $10 per panel. I have 84m of shared fencing to do.. about $6k all up, my half $3k. Jas, your neighbour if they paid the full fence price for your joining property, can still request half of the payment (under vic law) How much did you spend on fencing and gate? 7Dec 24, 2011 11:28 am Humble I'm in SA, but your right I am ment to pay half but due to the neighbors consulting me the day the fence went up (they had already bought the fence and arranged to have it installed) and it was noting like what I wanted color was wrong, style was wrong and it was not the height I wanted (I know I can't get it my way but we couldn't even meet in the middle) They gave me no notice (well tbh I got like 1 hours notice) and I was going to pay half and just get over it but on one condition that I didn't get the posts and rails in my yard (rest was to be good neighbor so will look out of place) plus being pregnant and hormonal lol the neighbor decided to put it up how he wanted it and he would pay for it - both happy in the end. The other neighbor at the back got his mother to ring me and ask for my postal address as they would send me the bill for the fence - when I asked what fence I was told its being installed this weekend, annoyed me somewhat but at least it was a good neighbor fence but the mother could not tell me any more so I again was slightly annoyed (can't put the proper word). I told her that they should of consulted me prior to purchase etc and she said that she had been trying to contact me but couldn't find me despite living in a small town and that there are only 4 people in this town with the same name (2 listings in the book) and that her and her dil (my neighbor) work with my bil. Never did receive the bill and that was about a year ago. I completely forgot about only having to pay half - doh! - our neighbour-to-be just joined the forum and our builds will be close to each other timing-wise, so we should be able to discuss pretty easily. Every house in our close seems to have pretty much the same cream/beige colorbond fence from memory. The back is brick walled and the other side was a spec-home; already fenced and sold to a new owner by the time we'd bought the land (I can only assume that means the original owners aren't still going to present us with a bill 10 months later?). Build thread: /viewtopic.php?f=31&t=49109 Blog: http://thelofthouse.wordpress.com/ How much did you spend on fencing and gate? 9Dec 24, 2011 4:01 pm Yep we will end up with 3 different style and colored fences but we are having a huge veg patch across the back so will put up a new fence there to fence it off that will match the one on our right which is where our alfresco is so you won't realize it's different. The one on the left is the dead side of the house and we were going to screw another rail on and put up new sheeting on it but not sure if the posts will take the weight and it's probably not worth it $ wise as you will only see about 10 meters of it where the kids swing and crap will be.
