Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 22, 2011 11:34 pm Hi Guys. Love the forum, so much useful information. We are looking at the Sonata by Masterton but the only display home is on the Central Coast which we haven't got to yet. Would love to hear any feedback about this house as it appears to have all the inclusions and layout we are after in a single story house. Looking at building at Stonecutters Ridge in 2012. Love to hear any comments. Thanks Paul. Re: Sonata by Masterton 2Dec 22, 2011 11:58 pm We are building the Sonata the moment. I believe its a fairly new design and we may be one of the first customers to have it built. We looked at hundreds of plans before finding this one and new immediately it was perfect for us. We have continued to look at plans and display homes even after signing and this just made us happier with our decision. It seems so many builders cant get the basics of a house right nowadays. We only made a few minor changes to the layout. Created a storage space in the garage and extended it, added doors instead of sq sets and an extra linen cupboard and flipped the laundry. The display home is definately worth checking out as well. Anne looks after it and is very helpful with any questions you may have. Our DA was approved last week so we should start construction early next year, I'll probably do a threqad/blog on the progress. You should check out the Masterton thread for a good idea of what your getting into... http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22483&start=2340 Re: Sonata by Masterton 3Dec 23, 2011 7:53 am squashedrex thatnks a million. I've had the same experience in that I've searched through jusy about every design by every builder and keep coming back to the Sonata. Not planning on significant changes, door to bedroom 4, change the study nook to another cupboard for storage. The garage is a vexing issue. Can I ask what you did and how much that cost? Wish I had a significant shed (those were the days) to put all that stuff into. Currently it will fit two cars and that's about it. What was your thinking on flipping the laundry? Wishing you all the best for your building and thats for the information. Re: Sonata by Masterton 4Dec 26, 2011 8:34 am We added a storage area at the back of the garage in place of the study nook and bed 2 robe. We moved bed 2 robe into the robe ala bed 3. We also extended the garage 500mm forward. Still not the huge garage I wanted but it will have to do. We flipped the laundry to add an additional linen cupboard, it sits next to the standard linen albiet outside of the laundry. If you want I can send you a copy of the plan to give you a better idea. Re: Sonata by Masterton 5Dec 26, 2011 9:35 am That would be awesome squashedrex. I really appreciate the information. Re: Sonata by Masterton 7Dec 28, 2011 7:17 pm Thanks so much - that's awesome. Definitely some food for thought. Re: Sonata by Masterton 8Dec 29, 2011 10:49 am Hey, I've had a look at the Sonata as well. I live on the Central Coast, so I'm planning to go look at the display home when they reopen in Jan. I could take pics if you want (don't know how much help it would be, but if you would like I can email them to you). Can you let me know what the base cost is of the Sonata, I tried to contract Masterton to ask, but the email inbox of the address I was given was full. Squashedrex- It looks like you have an alfresco area as well added on. Was that much to add? Re: Sonata by Masterton 9Dec 29, 2011 11:05 am Hi Exzy. Base price for the Sonata is $169 500. We're looking at adding the alfresco as well - it's a great size in comparison to a lot of others. You get 12sqm free as part of their current promotion so you'll end up paying for about half. Thanks for the offer of photos of the display home but we have decided to head that way when it reopens (I think they are closed until the 7th of Jan). Definitely love the design just trying to tinker with it to meet our specific requirements. Re: Sonata by Masterton 10Dec 29, 2011 1:37 pm Yes the current promo is buy the Mansion Package $4990 and Ducted Air Con $5990 and you get 12sqm of Alfresco free. The Alfresco is about 24sqm though and cost an extra $6619. Also although the base is $169950 we are up to $255k now. Re: Sonata by Masterton 12Jan 11, 2012 3:15 pm Yes we went up there last week. We have decided to go with the Sonata. Re: Sonata by Masterton 14Jan 11, 2012 4:15 pm Thanks Exzy, looking forward to the process. Lucky for us, we are in no rush so we can take time and do things properly. Have an appointment with Masterton tomorrow so I guess that's when the fun starts . Good luck with your searching. Re: Sonata by Masterton 15Jan 24, 2012 11:57 am Not sure if you guys are still looking at the Sonata but we are almost at construction so I have started my blog. I'll probably just post updates in the main Masterton thread or if theres enough interest I'll post here. 4 16735 |
