Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2923Jul 23, 2015 1:18 pm Thats part of whitesman edge the land developer for whitemans edge told everyone that they would have no state houses or corrective rehab when they first bought there land but did a back flip after and now they will do it regardless of what people say or do its already signed off. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2924Jul 23, 2015 1:27 pm And a rehabilitation centre for What?? There are many and it would depend what it was for before i objected and like Mortz said, also the location. 14 Dreng Way, Brabham Signed Land Contract - 29/06/2014 Finance Formal approval - 16/09/2014 Prestart - 30/04/2015 Titles - 22/05/2015 Building Permit - 25/05/2015 Land settled - Slab - Bricks - Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2926Jul 23, 2015 1:41 pm Sorry BradTam, my message went before i seen yours. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2928Jul 23, 2015 2:26 pm Sorry guys I am wrong about this it is not what I am talking about I just came home and got it the mail as well. What this is the property on the corner of the street before the new fire exit in our estate back towards west swan rd if that makes sence called Murray st. From what I saw it is like a unit base place cause from the street looks like a big house but go down Murray street and you see from the back its like units. What they want to turn it into is more units to house men that have destroyed there families through drugs or similar trauma and rehabilitate them back into the work force and society with special conditions. You will all get a form to agree or disagree and from what I read it will be based on what we say. All I can say is all of you guys have a good look at it and its up to each individual on what you think but we all made mistakes and most of these men deserve a second chance and I think most will as long as off the drugs will turn there life around and need a place like this in order to do so but on the other hand its really close to us and what security do they have if one goes off the rails and runs across the vacant land to us we all have partners or kids which we will put first before anything like this. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2929Jul 23, 2015 2:45 pm Also want to say I have said before about state housing I really dont have a proplem or even with whiteman edges corrective rehab but this is different its the unpredictability which worries me Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2930Jul 23, 2015 10:28 pm I was just thinking....If this was something positive or nothing to worry about why would they ask our consent? If they were building a day care or maternity care unit or shops would they ask us for 'permission'? Serious question. They are proposing building of a men's Rehab Centre called Shalom house.Lot 1-3/157 Park Street. I'm 100% all for reform etc... Please don't get me wrong. Like BradTam I'm just concerned about our safety and the closeness in proximity of the rehab center. They've got a curfew of 11pm apparently. No alcohol drugs or smoking allowed and residents won't be allowed to leave unless approved. What happens if they relapse escape or decide to come 'looking' for drugs alcohol etc at our homes? I'm trying to be positive and I only want the best for others and I believe every single person deserves a chance at a better life. I'm just in two minds about our own 'safety' if you will? I want to be able to sleep sound at night not with one eye opened! I'm sure you'll agree if you have small children or a partner/husband that works away or nights! Safety and peace of mind that's all. If they can guarantee that. Then I'll be all for it. If not. Sorry I'll have to object. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2932Jul 23, 2015 10:53 pm Yes BradTam totally agree. Sadly I've just read up about Shalom house. It's a drug rehab home where ex prisoners heroin addicts and men from troubled backgrounds can go and become reformed-rehabilitated and slowly integrated back into society. There's another Shalom home in Swan Valley. They are proposing to build another one near us as mentioned above. What's everyone else's opinion??? Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2933Jul 23, 2015 11:24 pm Hmm no letter for me... Looks like it's an expansion to an existing facility - http://www.shalomhouse.com.au/ Cnr Park St and Murray Rd. I always wondered what that odd looking building was all about. Figured it was a lodge of some kind. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2934Jul 24, 2015 12:05 am Hi Everyone, We just received the letter as well and I thought I'd jump on here first to see if I was over reacting. I moved from South africa 7 years ago and can sometimes over think things because I was brought up to be extra cautious. I'm with pretty much all of you when I say I am all for rehabilitation as my parents were youth leaders for many years in SA and I always believe anyone can change their future if they put their minds to it ...I'm just really concerned for my safety. Our lot is right on the edge of the estate, the part of dreng street that's across from the fence. I can't see me feeling safe knowing someone could be having an episode and running from an 11pm curfew and hiding in the bush across from us. It's a safety thing for me. I don't have kids now but will have one in a few years time. I want to know they will be safe playing in the park which will also be on the same boundary as mu house. 22 Dreng Way, Brabham Land-25 May 2013 House-May 2013 Finance Formal approval -Feb 2015 Prestart -21 Mar 2015 Titles -22 May 2015 Land settled -15 June 2015 Slab - 9 July 2015 Bricks - 7 July 2015 Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2935Jul 24, 2015 8:38 pm Hi everyone We just recieved our letter too, we will be objecting as we would really like this not to happen. We were told when we were looking at whitemans edge and they said there would be government housing etc and we said no straight away and went looking else where so as this is a private estate this shouldnt even be considered. I agree with safety is a huge issue. Im 25 and craigs 30 hes a cabinet maker and i work in banking. No kids or animals. Well get a pup once we are all settled in. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2936Jul 26, 2015 5:44 pm Hi guys. Yeah, we received the letter also and I had a chat with my wife about it. We also looked at Whiteman edge, and the idea of a nice little private estate like Avonlee was more appealing to us. So a situation like this is a little difficult. While we beleive in a fair go and rehabilitation being an important step in re-joining the community, this (like many of you) is our first ever home - of which we need to put our family's best interests as the priority. I would imagine that Programs like this certainly don't positively effect the market value of the estate and the homes in it either We will be objecting to this proposal, we have all worked hard (waited a long time for titles) and paid a lot of money for blocks of land in a private estate thats should remain so. Its a sensitive topic for some, but I really don't want this anywhere near our community. On a more positive note, how is everyone progressing? Slabs down for some already which is great! Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2938Jul 27, 2015 4:22 pm Hello everyone, I reside in Stage 3A (20 cottage lots) and would be objecting for the new development for this Men's rehab centre. Just like everyone else, i do believe in giving a second chance to those who needed the most. However, i would still put my family's safety as a priority. There is a probability of them running away from these homes and looking for drugs. Being the closest to our private estate, i guess we can become their target. When we bought the land, it was never shown in the development as well. So i will definitely be asking to move the development somewhere else maybe a little more further down to us. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2939Aug 03, 2015 12:29 am Hey everyone Can we all make sure your water meters are all there as someone stole our neighbours sometime before their slab went down and their builders have been using our water instead of letting them know :/ I contacted the water corp and they said it needs to be the owner that contacts them to get a new meter and until that time they will probably continue to use our water being 22 and our first home we can't afford to pay for two builds worth of water we are currently sitting at 9800 ish litres and our builder said is shouldn't be more than around 2000 at this time.. Re: Avonlee Henley Brook Perth 2940Aug 03, 2015 10:52 am Odd they put meters out so early if they're just going to get nicked. But then again I guess water corp want to charge for every last drop. Also an update on that planning letter we all got for the Shalom house rehab centre. The planning application has been rejected by the Swan Valley planning corp - so it is not going ahead. I called the council to confirm, they advised that there's no need to send your submissions in. You can check it on the city of Swan website http://epb.swan.wa.gov.au/Pages/XC.Trac ... ?id=394078 Hi, If you give a set of criteria as to what means 'good' to you, it'll give others prompts to respond. We considered Henley early on but there were two factors that… 1 11902 1 11235 1 4835 |
