We are building with M and are in lock up stage. Site started at the end of Sept.
We are also very pleased with the progress, and on the whole, the quality of the work. (there were issues, but they all work out in the end).
There is however one issue that we are feeling very unhappy about - inadequate window design for the house.
There is no where near enough ventilation upstairs. The windows do not open far enough. Almost all the windows upstairs that do open are awning windows, the portions that open are small, and they barely open at all. Even with a significant breeze outside, the air upstairs is still and stuffy.
The original design had the sliding windows, due to overlooking issues, we were told we had to use overlooking window. See photo. The bottom panel is frosted and fixed. The top panel is awning window. I thought they can open right up, not until I actually see them and try to use them. The opening angle is narrow. The winder chain is about 200mm to 300mm Max. Window supplier is Souther stars.
How long is your awning window winder chain?
Do you have ventilation issue with awning windows?
I am going back to M for a proposal, but I don't hold much hope as it is non-trivial job and they won't delay their project to make changes. I am considering to change them after the handover. How hard it is to change windows in first floor?
Thanks
