Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 18, 2011 11:59 pm Hi guys, We just did the first walk-through of our home. I've noticed on the walls along the kitchen area and hallway, there is an uneven tone in paint color, as in you can see the joining of the two plaster boards in the middle of the wall. They are about 20cm long and run across the entire wall. It is most evident when you look at the walls on an angle through light. It seems like it was a rushed job/not enough paint coats. The pantry door is also similar - you can see the uneven paint/plastering when you look at it in sunlight. I asked the manager (I think he was) if the door was going to be repainted or replaced and he simply said, "no matter how many coats of paint we put on it, it won't remove it" and "due to the door being a honeycomb design, the paint sinks in over time" or something along those lines. He also said something like "due to the placement of the handle, they have something there inside the door to support the handle, which is why you see the outlines". It isn't evident to any of the other bedroom doors (using same doors), but just the pantry door. And it seems like they aren't willing to paint over the walls or replace the door. Next walk-through is on Tuesday. What should I do if they don't want to fix the walls and pantry door? Edit: Image You can see the outlines where the white strips are along the wall in daylight. Would it be due to not enough paint coats? Re: New build - almost handover 2Dec 19, 2011 5:23 am Have they not plastered and sanded the joints properly before painting? This should not show. Either that or they have not done enough coats of paint or used bad paint yes it does, you've just not understood it. theres a difference. 4 5325 Your house should come in "as new" condition. It should be clean, and without stains 1 4555 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17609 |
