Some pics of the clearing fun. http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/2012-05-27133206.jpg http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/2012-05-27133140.jpg http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/2012-05-27133201.jpg http://i1260.photobucket.com/albums/ii575/tallong/2012-05-27133150.jpg The water tank is also full and ready to go. I also found out off a neighbour that the water tap at the front is bore water, but it goes through a treatment plant before being pumped out to the blocks so it is not 'bore water' in the traditional sense and so should be fine for building. I took a sample to have checked for acidity/alkalinity at a pool shop and then I will be onto the SS. It will make providing water a hell of a lot easier if it is ok. Fingers crossed that water is sweet and that Allworth get cracking soon 2 Re: Barker's Build - bobcat fun 66May 28, 2012 2:13 pm Got the water tested and it seemed to test better than normal drinking water in terms of calcium and acidity so yay for that. I also then had a look at the community association rules where it actually states that the reticulated water system is potable water (fine for humans) and so is not dirty bore water. If I had read that before speaking to Allworth, I could have avoided all of this drama with the water as there would have been no concerns with the water supply. Live and learn I suppose. My building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53000 Barker's Build - letter of commencement just in time! 67May 29, 2012 10:42 am Got the call from the bank and all loans have been approved and the letter of commencement will be emailed to the builder today. Which is lucky as if it was any later, it would have resulted in a possible price increase. So YAY!!! Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. Bank needs my guarantor to sign a document and they are about to go on a 6 month holiday. Had to prove to builder that build can be paid for (more bleeding forms). All done now but man has it sapped my enthusiasm for the build. I think I need to play with another bobcat... Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. So today when I went to check on the water tank, I saw that the cut and fill has now been finished! So we have started. If everything stays within their projected time frames, it should be done by start of November! Here are some pics. My building thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=53000 Barker's Build - Luck with the piers! (plus pic) 70Jun 21, 2012 7:51 pm So today I went out to measure the piers before the slab was laid. The builder allows for 65 lineal metres and we came in at...51.9 metres! So that means there should be a credit coming to us (have not checked out how much yet but is worth a few packets of Tim Tams and maybe some Mint Slices too). Here is a pic of the concrete guys hard at work. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ When we were measuring the holes, I realised that they were putting the heat pump just outside the main bathroom (which is the logical place to put it). However as these can be noisy, I had asked for it to be next to the laundry (also easier for plumbing) but they did not move it and as I was focused on the other plan changes that weren't done, I did not notice that it had been put back next to the bathroom. However, when I mentioned it, the concreter said he could put the pier hole for the heat pump next to the laundry and would talk to the SS about it. If the builder has a problem with it changing (don't know why it should be), the other slab bit is next to the bathroom anyway. But hopefully, all good to be near the laundry. I have got 80lm on my quote so i would be super happy to get around the same and get a nice credit 2 Re: Barker's Build - Excavation pics 72Jun 22, 2012 10:07 am M class slab. My soil is sand on bedrock so s class soil but because there could have been trees there before it was recommended to get m class slab anyway. This should save me about 1800 bucks. The venefit was that for half the slab they hit bedrock at 700mm so nice short pier holes Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. Concreter said he would be doing that saturday and slab poured probably on tuesday. Although note there is no reinforcing pier for heat pump either near laundry or bathroom so hopefully will be sorted next week. The slab looks good (not that I have any technical experience). I could not see any cracking or chipping off the corners. There are small depressions around each of the pipes where it looks like the concrete has sunk a bit that is normal isn't it? It has also made me appreciate the cool slippery slide we can have out the side door as the cut and fill puts it about a metre off the old land level for a bit of a down hill slope. I am thinking deck...(after lotto maybe...) Here are some piccies. Although the little slab for the heat pump does not look entirely level, it may just be my viewpoint. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And finally, here is the security guard hired to look after the site. There are heaps of magpies around but this guy just follows you around, walking behind you and lets you get very close. He has a sore foot at the moment, but can still swoop any vandals. He is also a pretty fat magpie so given his current job, I think I will call him 'Chubb' Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. Female magpies have grey feathers on their back whereas males have white. Babies also have grey feathers but an all black beak. Chubb has a lot of white on her beak so I'm guessing an adult female. We fed a pair of magpies and their various offspring for ten years or more at our old house. Somewhere there's a photo of 'Mrs Moo' standing on my knee being fed but I can't find it. Damn!
