I have been very busy. Sparkies have put in the ceiling fans and the powerpoints to the shed. Flooring in living areas done, gutter guard done, some of the fencing has been done, blinds are up and just the curtains to go, and the carpet and wardrobe to be done on Friday. Have pics but too sleepy at the moment. Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. A waffle pod slab does not go with maple syrup. Re: Barker's Build - handover booked in 164Oct 10, 2012 10:04 am Nope. All sorted two days after got the keys Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. So the water tank was meant to be done on the 25th September. But apparently the message did not get to the installer and he did not know. So got put back to the following week. Then there was wind (can't install in windy conditions due to metal being slightly deadly in high wind) so it was rescheduled. Then there was rain so it was rescheduled. Then there was neither but the weather channel predicted it so it was postponed just in case. So the plumber was put back again and again. Then finally the tank was put in three weeks late (when I was now back at work after having two weeks to get everything done...) as well as some water to tide us over until it rains (please please please rain soon!). But now the plumber can't get out for another week. Meanwhile, the heat pump is installed but can't be turned on until we have water. The plumber comes out last Friday but then can't do the job because they did not bring the trencher (I had been quoted from them for 30m of trenching, why the hell you would not bring the trencher I do not know!) so it got put back to Monday. So this Monday, the tank was connected to the gutters and to the house plumbing. No longer will I need to use a camp toilet when I stay there overnight before work or because I am doing odd jobs. Yay!!! Nay... I go there last night, turn on the pump. Heat pump starts filling up, toilet cisterns fill up, taps produce water, everything is good. Enjoy my man time with a magazine on a proper toilet! Then as I go to sleep, I notice the heat pump is still really noisy. Go to check it out. Not the heat pump, but the pipes connecting the heat pump to the internal plumbing is spraying water all over the shop from two different leaks. Only thing to do, turn off the heat pump, shut off the water, and go to bed grumpy, knowing that in the morning, I STILL CAN'T HAVE A SHOWER So I am now waiting for the plumber to come out and fix it. Which means I still can't get a certificate of occupancy! Oh, but here are some recent pics anyway. Nope, still leaking heavily. The plumber came again and yes, now it is fixed. So last night I had a little bath with the kids and this morning, a nice hot shower. So progress, yay! The valley guard was installed and council came out to inspect the septic and drainage. All good and signed off. The certifier came out to inspect the water tank and gutter guard to give me a CO and yep, all good. BUT apparently I have to have two 18mm bore garden hoses as per bushfire requirements and also the small driveway to the bushfire valve is too soft and needs compaction and road base. So still not certificate of occupancy. GRRRR! I am sure we will be able to legally live there by the time the kids finish high school... Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river. So 4 tonne of roadbase was delivered and I hired a plate compactor. Was easier then expected so there should be no reason not to get my certificate of occupancy. In other news, my DW is a home wrecker. She reversed her car into the garage wall so now I have some patching to do! Just under 3 months after having handover, I have my hands on the Certificate of Occupancy. Amazingly, the application to install a fireplace, took about three hours after I get the CO to the council, so that is now on track for Feb (when we can maybe afford it depending on me having three kidneys to sell...). So today was very long and very tiring. Moving lots of furniture, having a car breakdown, playing leaning tower of sofas with a trailer, etc. But it has finished with setting up my TV and computer and also having a long hot bath. Soon, if the little one ever decides that sleep is better than staying up and giggling (he is a baby, so no chance of reasoning with him), then I may be off to sleep to. A mate is in the market for a fireplace. He is going to purchase from a place at Smeaten Grange, he was in there yesterday and the sales guy told him to come back in January as they would be having a massive sale and he would save a heap of cash 2 Re: Barker's - Posting from my new house 175Nov 23, 2013 10:10 pm Been a bit quiet here for the past year. Settling in. Have curtains in three rooms and paper blinds in the rest. Have two light fittings. The vinyl plank flooring we put in started to lift in places so we put in a product recall. They inspected it and said it could not handle the sharp temperature changes in the area so agreed to replace it with an alternative (timber laminate). We wanted tile which they did not do so gave us a full refund. I will get around to tiling eventually but until then, helped to pay some debts and I plan to replace the damaged vinyl planks until then. We have mainly been working on the 3 acres, sowing grass, putting up horse fences, building play areas. I have started a new project making a stepped garden out of tree trunks and made a new post here. http://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=68337 Building tip No. 3: A raft slab will not get you down a river.
