I just wondered if there was anyone else suffering rain delays in Sydney ? We are building in Gordon, on the north shore in Sydney & our brickies only manage about 2 days bricklaying a week. This is due to all the rain we keep having. A lot of the time, they can't lay the bricks, because the bricks are wet from the previous days rain. I just keep wondering why they don't cover the brick piles with tarps when it rains, or when they go home. Surely they can't be enjoying only getting paid for 2 days each week either ? We are loving living in our new home ! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... &start=315 Re: Anyone else having rain delays in Sydney ? 2Feb 14, 2008 9:34 am Hey Rikster - we are having severe delays because of rain - the developer is still preparing the land - putting in sewer, power, roads etc - so every day of heavy rain means you need 2 days to dry out the land before they can get the excavation equipment going again.
Needless to say we are a little peeved! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Anyone else having rain delays in Sydney ? 3Feb 14, 2008 10:00 am We''ve had the trees on our land cut down but the arborer can't bore out the roots yet. His boring machine is in the middle of a council park and the council won't let him move it while the ground is so wet as they don't want the park damaged. Most brickies get paid by the number of bricks laid so in your case they are probably out of pocket. The building industry in Sydney and other wet regions would be feeling the pinch with all this rain. Remember, builders get paid on progress, not on a fixed date. Re: Anyone else having rain delays in Sydney ? 7Feb 14, 2008 8:11 pm Sorry Rikster, we must take some of the blame too because since our bricks were delivered in the middle of November the rain hasn't really stopped.........once again, very sorry.

Hi Rikster, Check your builder, my understanding is, one of the stages during construction that shouldn't be hurried is the brick layering stage. I was told it's best if they only build certain area up to certain height, then move to another part to wait for the previous part to settle/dry... etc. Ours took 6 weeks to finish (partly due to rain) late last year and it's indeed very painful. But the result was quite good and every trades person who worked on our site said the brick work was excellent. We compared our brick work with a few other sites from the same builder and the quality is indeed much better....
