Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Garage Door Openers 21Feb 15, 2008 5:06 pm Hmmm.... I need to be 100% sure i want one of these things, it's about $850 installed with controllers so don't want to waste any money on CRAP????
I was looking at it purely from a noise perspective... but it seems there is a little more to consider..... Re: Garage Door Openers 22Feb 15, 2008 5:26 pm Here's the B&D catalogue:
http://www.bnd.com.au/content/?action=getfile&id=335 And the web page listing them: http://www.bnd.com.au/shop/?fuseaction= ... _id=37&i=1 They've had a redesign since we got ours. About all that has changed is the outside casing, the transmitter frequency, and the change to LED instead of incandescent lighting. We had the problem where a neighbour's wireless doorbell jammed ours (433Mhz), and that's what the new ones are all about - a new frequency to avoid those issues. If you look at theweb page above, ours is the equivalent of the 2nd one down - the CAD-P Diamond for a panel lift door. BTW - "CAD" = "Control-A-Door" in garage door speak. We have 2 of them, so we ended up with 4 remotes - 2 chunky ones & 2 keyfobs. I got them programmed so that button 1 on all of then does 1 door, button 2 on all does the 2nd door, and the 3rd button is spare. That way 1 remote can do anything, and we have spares - one in the house (hidden) and one in the garage (also hidden). I also added the wireless keypad remote later - fitted it beside the front door - on the inside. I would recommend them, even with the interference hiccup we had, and with the chain rattle that I have sice fixed. Before getting them, I 'road tested' a number of openers, and the CAD-P Diamond series for panel-lift doors were by far the best. Ours has the feature where it will reverse if it is jammed, but you really have to block it to stop it coming down, to the point where you feel pain in your foot (while wearing thongs) before it will stop & reverse. Thanks CN, is your opener chain driven or belt driven??? I thought the Diamond series were belt driven which is why they are so quiet??? No chains to rattle? We still have time to decide i suppose. But good to know that someone is happy with their selection.. Re: Garage Door Openers 24Feb 15, 2008 6:35 pm Only the top-line diamond is belt driven.
Ours are the second from the top - same unit basically, but a chain drive. Re: Garage Door Openers 25Feb 15, 2008 6:54 pm commodorenut Only the top-line diamond is belt driven. What made that one stand out from the rest?
