Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 07, 2011 12:57 am Hi, What have people found to be the best option for their crossover? We wanted to get our builder to just continue the driveway paving to cover the crossover but they wont do this because of the particular council we are building under. Also, at our pre-start today we were asked whether we wanted a limestone road base under our driveway. We have declined this, though I was just wondering if people who have built previously would actually think it is worthwhile to include? We also declined on getting treatment for European House Borer.. because it was $1500 - they were planning on using different timber in the roof. Thank you!!!.. Re: Crossover options and limestone roadbases under drivewa 2Dec 07, 2011 11:24 am I would definitely go for the limestone road base. Any driveway, even concrete, at the end is only as good as the base. With building works the original dirt can get messed up to the extra excavation and compaction of the base all help to give a better long term finish. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get ! Depending on the council, some like ours will let you do this but make you sign a waiver so that if someone trips on your paving and injure themselves, they sue you and not them. Go down and have a word to them ( take a sample with you or photo ) about what you would like to do , don't just rely on the builders word. Stewie Re: Crossover options and limestone roadbases under drivewa 5Dec 07, 2011 6:44 pm The builder may not let you 'continue' with the paving due to council for any number of reasons. I know my buillder supplied 50mm pavers for the drive way but council requirements had to be 60mm for the cross over. I simply requested the paving contractors details from my builders. Contacted him and asked if he would mind doing the crossover at the same time as the driveway at my expense. He gave me a quote for excavation, limestone base and laying for the crossover area. I then arranged to have the required amount of 60mm pavers (same style as the 50mm) delivered in time for him to lay it all at the same time. Best to contact your council first to find out what types of cross overs you can actually install. You should be able to find the information online, if not give them a call and they should be able to send you the info. Built with RedInk Custom 5000 Key Handover 15/12/2009 I want to build a bigger driveway (without a nature strip) than has been approved under my CDC. I’ve also had a DA approved to build a deck. It looks like I can do this… 0 4783 you need to make an application to your local council for this as they are the approval authority for driveways cheers Simeon 1 7069 Ha all, I am now about half way (maybe a bit more) through my build with Carlisle Homes - double-storey knockdown/rebuild project.
