Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Feb 13, 2008 3:59 pm Hi Everyone,
I have been reading this forum for a few hours now and its fantastic. Its great to see the consumers uniting to help everyone so i hope i can contribute as much as I am hoping all of you to provide me with feedback. Background. I am building a 100% custom house in Melbourne and i am using JG K1ng as the builder. So far they have been pretty good and fairly reasonable. Although having said this my first contact with them was July 07 and its Feb 08 and i still haven't even signed the contract yet. The big delay is due to me being an auditor in my previous lives so i am very pedantic with documentation. I am hoping that it will reduce problems down the track. I too will start a blog like many others here so watch this space. Questions. 1. Can anyone post any experience with this builder? Any feedback would be extremely appreciated postive or negative. 2. Anyone had any problems with getting builders to allow your own contractors to do some work before handover? I'd be interested in your tactics in convincing them. I am doing the floors and my kitchen and they won't allow the floors to be done and worst charging me for a temp kitchen that i will have to rip out after handover. 3. Anyone used Alno kitchens? Tips List of tips i've accumulated to date. (thati can remember right now) that have not been posted. 1. check your contract. Its worth the $10 bucks for a HIA or a Master bulder contract b/c they say theirs is based on one of these contracts but when i did the 'audit' excuse the pun on it there's slight variations to their favour. 2. check your soil test document b/c it should tell you the land that you are on and the likelihood of "rocks" that could inflate your site costs 3. Email is the best form of communication. I find any conversation i have i put it in an email to confirm. Legally email is just as legal as a written document. Thats all i can remember for now so hopefully someone can help me with my questions. thanks smeagol. Re: Hello world!
