I just received the engineering drawings for a three-townhouse development I'm doing in Melbourne's west. I'm so shocked at the number of concrete piers I'm seeing on the plans...
I counted and found:
51 x diameter 600, 1800 deep concreter bore pier
33 x diameter 450, 1800 deep concreter bore pier
14 x diameter 450, 3500 deep concrete bored pier
The site is a P-class site with a H2 class slab. The site is very flat. It's classified as P mainly because there's a big tree in the neighbour's backyard quite close to our common boundary. Soil is clay with no more than 300mm of fill.
My gut feeling is that the engineer has over-designed...but who am I to say...
I was just wondering if anyone knows how much these piers are going to cost me? Do you guys think it's worth going for another engineer? That'll cost another 2k or 3k in itself though...
thanks in advance,
yw
