Surely thats not a valid reason.. surely.. Heh, our ceiling is much higher than any of our neighbours - so I know that's not true Re: consent for ceiling height 24Nov 29, 2011 10:54 am cricketer time to disclose - If your neighbour has a higher ceiling than yours then all your fortune will go to your neighbour! Hmmm sounds like feng shui.... given i am married to a chinese person and live in Singapore (going on 20years) and I have never heard that one before. Explain to your neighbour that he can also put some sort of reflective strip along the side which faces your house so any outflow is redirected back to his house. While I get that feng shui is practiced in many countries and in many areas it is not a religion and I seriously doubt a council will deny approval because of it. If you read up on it lots of feng shui is common sense. For example: one should have a pointy roof, most houses do. best to have mountains in the rear and water in front, if only we could all afford that land. Dont live immediately in front of a T junction Some of the ones I dont understand. two peking ducks to improve love life mirror facing bed sucks your soul out of your body stairs or rear door facing front door, all your money flows out. Keep your chin up and stay calm and submit to council. Ciao Mark Re: consent for ceiling height 25Nov 29, 2011 11:01 am Thank you everyone for your responses. Much appreciated. It does help with the morale especially when you are spending so much! Mark - my builder offers 2550mm/8.36 feet as standard but I have requested an upgrade to 2730mm/8.95 feet. Okay so it is to do with Feng Shui. I will tell him about what you 've said. All plans are now with the council. EVERYTHING XX. Re: consent for ceiling height 26Nov 29, 2011 11:11 am So the council BUILDING HEIGHT requirements states that - BUILDING HEIGHT The height of a building must not exceed – • 10 metres if the slope of the natural ground level at any cross section wider than 8 metres of the site of the building is 2.5o or more; or • 9 metres in any other case. Re: consent for ceiling height 27Nov 29, 2011 12:14 pm cricketer Well the belief is that if your neighbour has a higher ceiling than yours then all your fortune will go to your neighbour! Stop. Wait one minute. Your neighbour wants your ceiling lower than his! This is so all your fortune will go to him! That's theft! Your neighbour is a dirty rotten inconsiderate good-for-nothing low-life stinking thief! It's time to retaliate. Study your neighbour's religion and then do everything you can to torment him. On a more serious note, I would ignore your neighbour. Do whatever you want as long as your Local Council allows it. This whole issue is amusing and not worth any concern on your part. Submit your development application and wait for approval. Oh, and don't forget to gather all the fortune pouring in from your neighbour Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: consent for ceiling height 29Nov 29, 2011 12:30 pm Casa2 On a more serious note, I would ignore your neighbour. I'm with this guy. The whole thing is a joke. The audacity of people sometimes never ceases to amaze. Re: consent for ceiling height 30Nov 29, 2011 3:00 pm tell your neighbour your religion doesnt allow homes to be built either side of your place. http://lindeman28.blogspot.com - Our building blog Re: consent for ceiling height 32Nov 29, 2011 7:09 pm I'm thinking of raising my ceiling by 300 mm. Does anyone know how much this will cost? The idea is to catch all my neighbours' fortune and then use to pay off the cost of getting the work done. Of course, I have to be able t afford the work in the first place, but after that it's fortune, fortune, fortune. Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: consent for ceiling height 33Nov 29, 2011 7:23 pm all hail the gods of ceiling height lmao. We live in a secular country that seperates cutural from government... at all levels... oh I should stop now. depending on what council/state etc you live in the building code will be quite clear, and theres not a rats either you or your neighbour can do about it. Go and have a chat with your councils planning department and suss out what you can and cant do before you start. We built on the boundary and were restricted to a 2600 ceiling height, after 1 meter from the boundary we stepped up to 3200. It has made our internal structure quite interesting and only added to the final aestetic. consent for ceiling height 34Nov 29, 2011 7:47 pm There really isn't a need for you to post this topic because at the end of the day, you won't have any problems getting approval. My superannuation isn't looking very good - what with the GFC and what is happening. My salary barely covers expenses. My question is, how much would I need to raise my ceiling by to be able to retire in 5 years? It really is time our country got strict on other cultures who try to force their beliefs down our throats. With all due respect this is the sort of response I would put in the same class as the neighbour not giving approval. For a start it is an issue that is causing Cricketer stress and is obviously not a nothing issue. While we say that there wont be any problems getting approval this is his first time building a house. Delays can have knock on effects. It is insensitive to simply discount this. Secondly, inferring that because someone believes in Feng Shui they must come from a backward village is insulting. To start with there are lots of people in Australia that believe in Feng Shui and I would bet they go back at least as long as your family. Also, every dealing room and trading room in Asia has likely been assessed for correct Feng Shui, I can confirm that for the 4 Banks I have worked for they have. As to getting tough on allowing cultures in that force their beliefs, I think you are off mark as this is no-where near forcing a cultural belief on Cricketer, he is just being an A-hole and sorry to say that is not restricted to any on race or culture. I hope the council provides a speedy approval and that the neighbours could live amicably next to each other. Ruby, not sure why I take the cake. the reason I used that saying is because cricketer had said that his wife had pleaded with the neighbour (to no avail) and being their first house they want what they want and I dont blame them. I have heard that saying many times, haha easier said than done. I currently live in Singapore and every house that Chinese own consider Feng Shui and I have never come across the Ceiling height issue before and they have all sorts of different heights over here. I dont believe its religion unless he is starting a new religion. We all know that it is totally unreasonable. With religions and cultures etc unfortunately the vocal minority gives the silent majority a bad rap I think, unfortunately its a harder issue to solve. Apologies if my post or view offended anyone, it was not intentional. Cheers mark ok thanks - yes was wondering if that should have been listed as Option Three! 2 7755 I'll look into different shower heads and ask the plumber about some engineering and see what he says.
