Glad the render worked out ok. It looks smashing. Love the hanging rail under the laundry overheads and the size of your linen cupboard! Kitchen is fab, love black, white and shiney! Hello alt0160 and welcome to our thread. The hanging rail under the laundry overheads was something we picked up on the forum here, like so many other things. It is such a great resource to have and our house wouldn't be half as good as it is without it. We were a bit unsure if the black and white would work the way we imagined, but really love it now we see it in the house! The other thing we are nervous about is the splashback. I can't even remember anymore what exactly the colour will look like, but it was a bit of a gamble to use something a little different. It's called metallic mushroom. Splashback should be installed towards the end of next week, so that will be interesting. Deemaree Two weeks? YAY! Yes I know! We can't really believe it. The whole process from when we started to look at the block has taken so long (3 1/2 years by now) that it feels very surreal that the end should be so close. dreamcometrue Not long now and I'm still waiting The render looks lovely now with the contrast of the portico and door I remember those times, it felt like they were never going to start. I hope they will get going for you soon and you get into the excitement of the construction process. Thanks everyone for your nice comments about the colour. We agree that it looks nice and they have done a good job with it. If you didn't know, you couldn't tell that there ever were any dramas about the colours. I see a lot of red and black splash backs with black bench tops, so it will be interesting to see mushroom! It is good to be different. I see a lot of red and black splash backs with black bench tops, so it will be interesting to see mushroom! It is good to be different. It certainly will be "interesting". We are really nervous about it as we chose it from just a little 10cm x 10cm square. It looked good holding the samples next to each other but what will it be like across the whole length of the wall??? Mclaren Wow ... everything's looking great .. love the tiling in the bathroom and the discreet feature - very nice You really are getting close - can't wait to see the "finished" pictures ... woo hoo!!! Thanks, we like it too and can't wait. At the moment the bathrooms look very white and we are wondering if we should have put more of the feature in there. But hopefully once we have towels and other stuff in there it will break up the "whiteness" and look even better. Here are a couple more pictures of the bathrooms with bits and pieces installed: Main bathroom: Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Ensuite Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Thread: viewtopic.php?f=31&t=52680 SiteStart 19/11/11 Slab 10/12/11 Frame 17/02/12 Roof 3/05/12 LockUp 22/06/12 Handover 31/08/12 Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Close 227Aug 10, 2012 10:35 pm On another note, has anyone else found it hard to get companies to quote for jobs? I would think that in the current economic climate everyone would be bending over backwards to get work. Especially if it is a job of decent size that should pay well? I have had so many problems getting companies to reply to my requests for quotes it is not funny anymore. The latest was that I requested quotes to have a 5000l rainwater tank supplied and installed and the stormwater system installed and connected to the tank. With the size of the house it is a fairly decent sized job I would have thought. Two companies I contacted never got back to me. Another one said they would get me a quote in a few days. Then nothing and I had to chase after them. Five weeks and three phone calls later I told them that they needn't bother anymore. The last company sent out someone to talk to me. He promised me a quote within the next couple of days. A week later I called to ask about it. Another week later and I still haven't heard! I don't suppose you got an apology either when you chased them up The wet areas are looking good, those mottled floor tiles are nice against the wall tiles, but I am wondering why the ceilings aren't finished off yet? https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Close 229Aug 11, 2012 8:57 pm dreamcometrue A lot of people have problems with getting quotes - is it so hard to at least call back? I don't suppose you got an apology either when you chased them up I did get some sort of an apology from one company. They said something like "this is not our normal business practice and due to circumstances you have slipped through the gaps" bla bla bla. They then tried to offer to still do the quote but I declined. I have no confidence that a company that can't even give me a quote within a reasonable amount of time will actually show up to do the job when I need them to. dreamcometrue The wet areas are looking good, those mottled floor tiles are nice against the wall tiles, but I am wondering why the ceilings aren't finished off yet? The ceilings in the bathrooms aren't finished because of the full height tiling. They couldn't put on the cornices before the tiling was finished, because the cornices have to overlap the tiles. They will do that next week I think. Not so sure why they haven't painted the ceilings though. I think they prefer to paint the cornices first and then the ceiling afterwards and they probably have good reasons for that. It was a bit hard to get into the house though since the tradies obviously were only at the house for short periods of time. The glass splashback has gone into the kitchen yesterday although they somehow forgot a panel to the right of the window. We could only look at it through the dirty windows, so no photos yet. It looks good. Not amazing but also not omg what have we done. I'm quite happy with it. Only a few things left: garage doors, silicon in bathrooms and the splashback panel. Cleaning will be done on Thursday and Friday. PCI has been booked for next Tuesday afternoon. FINALLY we are getting to the end, at least of the building bit. Thank you for the tip, we will have a close look at everything. I will also ask the independent building inspector that has done some stage inspections for us during the built to come as well. So hopefully we won't miss anything. So far they have been pretty good so fingers crossed there won't be anything major. dreamcometrue Soooo close Yes, can't wait to finally get the keys. Still so much work to do afterwards though. How is yours going? Any sign of trenches yet? bubblynutter Woohoo! Best of luck for PCI! Tell Ingrid to get packing... Thank you! Packing will probably be happening at the last possible moment. There's too much stuff that we need with 3 kids running around. So we can't really pack everything away in advance. But I have moved many times before and usually it only takes a couple of days of concerted effort to get it all done, so I'm sure we can do it. Unfortunately photos of the splashback have to wait until we get a chance to get into the house. Photos through the dirty windows just don't work as they don't show the colour at all. Maybe in the next couple of days, while the cleaners are at the house we will get a chance to take some pictures from the inside.
