Browse Forums Building A New House Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Framed! 81Feb 06, 2012 10:41 pm Yes it was really nice to have a walk through and get a better idea of the rooms. But somehow the house and especially the bedrooms still look quite small. I'm hoping/thinking that it's just an optical illusion because in reality the house and the bedrooms should be bigger than in our current house. I'm sure it will all come together once the walls are completed. By the way, I got assurance from the construction manager that the sewer pipes will be relocated to the position we want them. It's nice for you that you finally get your plans. Not long till council then. I hope you have a better experience with them than we did. First off, I hope your little girl is recovering well, is her cast off yet? poor little mite, I have a 4yr old too & I couldn't imagine her not being able to run around & play etc, it must be very frustrating for her. As for the your build, yay for frames!! it is so exciting being able to walk around the "rooms" & really get to see your new home take shape. Don't worry about them seeming small, we all think that during slab/framing stage. I swear with every stage from now on it seems to get bigger & bigger, even furniture makes it seem big as it really puts it all into perspective how big the area actually is. Looking forward to seeing your hebel, we were keen to have hebel since it is such a good insulator etc but our area turns into a dust bowl in summer & we were worried we'd be forever re-painting the render to keep it looking nice Building our custom design "Dream Home" Follow my Build - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=46820 Contract Signed - 28/04/11 Siteworks Commenced - 20/06/11 Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Framed! 84Feb 08, 2012 1:43 pm Broom Just did some catching up on your thread Thalian, I've been a bit slack lately! Welcome back. DD is doing well. She is pain free and apart from rare moments of frustration she copes very well. She is a very happy child and after we put her down on the ground on her tummy for the first time last Sunday, she has now worked out how to crawl around and flip herself from the front to the back and the other way around again. She loves being on the ground as it gives her a chance to get around a bit and play with things. Much better than just being on her back! It always amazes me how well children manage to adjust and cope. Two weeks down, another four weeks in the cast to go! Hopefully it goes quickly and I think we might be the only ones in Adelaide at the moment that are absolutely loving the cool weather as it is so much more comfortable for DD. Yes, I've read that other people had similar feelings about the size of their rooms a few times on here. It's just a weird thing when your head tells you this room is bigger than the old room but your eyes say no it looks awfully small. Today they are putting the roof trusses up. So I might see a completed frame on my way home tonight. Over the last couple of days they have finished off bits and pieces of the wall frames, put together the rafters for the roof and put them on top. I. went for a walk with the kids this afternoon and met some of the workers as they were packing up. They said it would be another 3 days of work to get everything finished. Obviously there are still a lot of bits and pieces that need to be attached and screwed down. The neighbours frame (my block) was just finished today, took about 7 days all up. I also had a look at the other hebel house, which I hadn't seen before. I picked up the plans today, just had to confirm the window sizes so that we can get a firm price on the large window and doors that we've upgraded since our previous quote. Hoping it won't come in too costly but we have a very big window in the family room, most likely $$'s and we changed the height of the stacker to 2400 high, so we'll see, the price isn't locked in yet. https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Framed! 87Feb 08, 2012 11:13 pm That is one amazing frame! https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=43937&start=0 Bought a block in Golden Grove - Jan 2011 Finally finished our design, Mar 2012, *yay* Signed with ADH council consent June 12 Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Framed! 88Feb 08, 2012 11:33 pm dreamcometrue That is one amazing frame! Yes, it looks BIG from the outside (still have a feeling the rooms are too small when I stand inside). There seems to be a lot of blue steel there. I hope you get all your remaining things sorted out quickly and that those windows and doors will not be too expensive. Especially how many roof trusses they put up. I'm wondering if there will be any crawlspace left in the roof. Windows have been delivered yesterday. They are still finishing off the frame though putting on bits and pieces here and there. Will be interesting to see if the windows have gone in today or not. Mclaren How's your little girl doing??? She is doing really well, thanks for asking. The first week was a bit of a struggle for her to get over the aftereffects of the surgery and getting used to the new situation. By now she is quite happy again, sleeping well through the night and as mobile as the cast allows her to be. She is back going to Kindy and enjoying it. Overall it is amazing how well she copes and we are very proud of how she is handling the situation. We're almost at half time. Another 3 1/2 weeks to go in her cast. And I can't believe how quick they are with sending out the invoice! Funny how organized and quick they can be if they want their money. Pity that other paperwork took somewhat longer to process! Re: IMJAS' House in SA - Getting Framed! 96Feb 18, 2012 12:00 am With the frame complete, the builder didn't waste any time sending out the progress invoice. Unfortunately, while we have 40% of the contract sum paid now, the house isn't quite 40% finished yet. When I spoke to our SS, he said that he estimates completion in about 5 months. So that would make it about mid July. We were hoping for it to be a bit sooner, but I guess it's better they take their time and do a really good job. At least that's what I'm telling myself. The Hebel for the outside walls was delivered today, so our walls should go up next week. P.S. Anyone interested in more pictures of our frame, please head over to my blog. There are plenty more blue steel pictures to see. So far we like it as well. Next week we will get walls and it will be great to see how this changes the look. And to indirectly answer your question about where we are: If you drive around in the area where we are building, then you would have seen the frame. It is quite obvious and hard to mistake for another house as it is a once off, unique design.
